Expert: 800,000 Serbs were killed in Croat WW2 death camp
Professor Dr. Gideon Greif, chief researcher at the Holocaust Institute Shem Olam in Israel, has revealed information about the victims of torture in Jasenovac.

Jasenovac Memorial
Jasenovac was a death camp for Serbs, Jews, and Roma, set up and operated by the Ustasha regime of the Nazi-allied Independent State of Croatia (NDH) during the Second World War.
Based on the information he received during his four-year work on the study entitled, "Jasenovac, the Auschwitz of Balkans,", Greif said that at least 800,000 Serbs and about 40,000 Jews have been killed in Jasenovac in the most brutal manner. "Jasenovac was the empire of death," Greif points out, adding that revisionism represents a second murder of the victims.
"We must direct all forces against revisionism, so that the victims would not become victims again. Facts are facts and we cannot sweep them under the rug, the truth always comes out. I consider all these attempts to revise history to be childish, they are all condemned to failure," he stressed.

During the war, the Ustase (Nazi-supporting Croats) wiped out several Serbian villages of all men, women and children, including the home village of Mr. M's paternal grandfather, who by then had emigrated to the U.S.
It was Christmas of 1943 (Jan. 7 in the Orthodox calendar), and nearly everyone in town was at the village school for a holiday program. The Croatian Nazis entered the school and proceeded to machine gun everyone in attendance. In 1998, Mr. M and I visited the village and saw the memorial marker with the names of the victims.
