"At least one Texan is not happy about receiving text messages about Beto O’Rourke’s run for U.S. Senate.

A class action lawsuit filed against the Beto for Texas campaign claims the organization sent text messages to Texans without obtaining their permission, violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

The suit, filed Friday in the Northern District of Texas Court, names Collin County resident Sameer Syeed as a plaintiff on behalf of all Texans that the O’Rourke campaign sent texts to Texans without obtaining permission."

I don't what I would have done if I got a text from the Irishman-maybe had a stroke. There's plenty of money in the campaign to compensate the victims of this atrocity.

I can't print here my response to those texts.

   I just deleted them as quickly as I got them, one night, intoxicated, I basically told them to GFY, they responded that I would be removed from their list, problem solved.

I don't know if this lawsuit will fly.  At the Federal level (at least), political ads are exempted from the Do Not Call registry.  I could be incorrect about this.

I would be interested to know who gave or sold them the phone numbers.

That's an interesting question.  After I sacked my landline because of the endless stream of cold sales calls, I started getting a fresh endless stream on my cell phone.  I got an app called MrNumber.  When I get a sales call (or some other BS annoying call), I can report it to MrNumber, and it goes on a blacklist they maintain so others can block it as well.  I can also set it to use my list of contacts ass a white list, to allow only someone I know to call me.

Cold sales calls are still illegal, technically, so they are breaking the law by even calling.  Nobody seems to care to enforce it, even when I report it.  But, to go back to the OT, politicians exempted themselves from the law.  Political speech has greater protection than commercial speech.

Thousands register for class action suit against O’Rourke campaign for unsolicited texts

https://www.star-telegram.com/news/politics-government/state-politics/article220567550.html (https://www.star-telegram.com/news/politics-government/state-politics/article220567550.html)

Thousands of people have joined a class action suit against Beto O’Rourke’s U.S. Senate campaign, saying they received unsolicited text messages from the organization.

The suit, filed Oct. 19 in the Northern District of Texas, names Collin County resident Sameer Syed as a plaintiff on behalf of all Texans that the Beto for Texas campaign sent texts to without obtaining permission.

Since then, Syed’s lawyer said more than 5,000 people have registered to be a part of the class action suit, with hundreds more applying each day.

The Telephone Consumer Protection Act prohibits the use of automated telephone equipment to send texts or calls to a person’s cellphone without their permission except for emergency purposes.

While political messages are protected under the first amendment, the act’s restrictions apply to political calls and texts when an auto dialer is used.

In the suit, Syed demands that Beto for Texas pay at least $500 per text message to Syed and other members of the class action suit.

And of course, when it comes to politics and pushing the leftists upon voters, their fake concern for privacy rights are out the door (ie a Beto campaign lie against Cruz re: internet privacy rights).

I had a co-worker who sued lots of companies over Telephone Consumer Protection Act violations. He was taking time off from work many times for court dates. I don't know how much money he made in fines. I just know he went after violator after violator.

Nobody has to sell them anything. If they are using robot calling systems, or texting systems, all they need is an area code and a three digit prefix. Then the robot will start counting up. And they don't care who it goes to. 512 XXX 0001, 512 XXX 0002 etc.

I asked one of them. They told me it was from voter rolls, yet, I didn't have this number but for 3 years. Always gave out my land line for official stuff, until one year ago. Also, wouldn't voter rolls just have your address?

I've had about a dozen of them.
The one I answer above.
Once I said my vote was a private matter.
Once I told them I would not vote for a socialist.
Once I asked who in the hell Amanda was, because that's how my text started, "Hi, "Amanda".
Guess Amanda had my number previously.

Just deleted a few others.

Rumor is that Francis got $38 million from Soros. The DNC asked him to spread it around to other candidates and he refused. He said, 'NO! I'm keeping it all.' Don't know if he can use Soros money to pay a lawsuit? But yes. He has money.

He was born a rich White boy anyway. He can get the money from his parents.

@Elderberry

If you don't mind telling, what did you say to the poor misguided soul?

Once he said Beto, I just said I've already voted, have a nice day, and slammed the door in his face.

I should have said "Get off my Lawn!"

@Elderberry
Very restrained. I probably would have spouted off with a list of Robert Francis' corrupt acts as I chased him down the driveway.

Oh, I'm getting the texts too.  Got my 11th from the Robert Francis campaign just today.

It makes me wonder how they're putting their list together as I've not received a single text.

If they have called, I didn't pick up. I don't answer calls from unknown callers.
