Biden DOJ Says Trump Is First President To Face Criminal Prosecution Because Predecessors Committed No 'Crimes'
Jason Cohen

April 25, 2024 1:00 PM ET

The lawyer representing special counsel Jack Smith on Thursday asserted that the reason former President Donald Trump is the first president to face criminal charges is because his predecessors did not commit any crimes.

Department of Justice counselor to Smith, Michael Dreeben, went before the Supreme Court to argue presidents should not have constitutional immunity from prosecution for official acts conducted during their presidency. Dreeben suggested that no president until Trump has ever committed crimes when Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas questioned him about no other president having faced prosecutions. “Over the not-so-distant past … certain presidents have engaged in various activity, coups or operations like Operation Mongoose, when I was a teenager, and yet there were no prosecutions,” Thomas said. “Why? If what you’re saying is right, it would seem that would have been ripe for criminal prosecution of someone.”

“So Justice Thomas, I think this is a central question,” Dreeben responded. “The reason why there have not been prior criminal prosecutions is that there were not crimes.”

‘Squad’ members descend on Columbia encampment, offer 'support' for anti-Israel agitators

New York Democratic Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jamaal Bowman, both members of "The Squad," were seen Friday mingling with anti-Israel agitators at Columbia University, where "support" was offered to those in the encampment established to protest the Israeli military's actions in Gaza.

In one video shared on social media, a smiling Ocasio-Cortez is shown speaking with those inside the encampment and offering her "support" for those who have become engaged in the protest.

Photographs of Bowman also circulated on social media, showing the cheerful New York Democrat listening to those who were taking part in the encampment protest. His appearance at the school came after he reportedly attended a Thursday evening Biden campaign fundraiser in Westchester County, where he was recognized for his attendance by the president.

The visits by Ocasio-Cortez and Bowman to Columbia's campus in New York City came one day after Minnesota Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar – another prominent member of the "The Squad" – traveled to the school to show her support for the students who are taking part in a group of encampments on the main lawn in protest of Israel's war against Hamas.

The attack occurred before U.S. personnel began constructing the floating pier, the official said, noting that “there will be no U.S. forces on the ground in Gaza.”

So will they be walking and working on the water?

Over-priced Colleges and Universities?

Student Debt Forgiveness is a subsidy for College and University revenue.

Could well be. But if the borrowers paid their own loans...wouldn't the end result be the same?

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said he is afraid innocent lives will be harmed if President Joe Biden’s administration continues to refuse him Secret Service protection despite a myriad of death threats and multiple break-ins to his home.

“I provided them 68 pages of material death threats of, you know, actual incidents where people coming with guns to my events and trying to get into my green room with hidden weapons,” Kennedy told author and journalist Raymond Arroyo.

Several of these potential assassins carried fake identification and fake federal identification, he said.
