Trump rally set for Saturday in North Carolina

Donald Trump has complained about the trial taking him off the campaign trial, but he will be free to hold a rally tomorrow.
The 45th president's campaign has scheduled an extravaganza for 7 p.m. in Wilmington, NC.
It's unclear whether Trump will stay Friday night in the city and fly directly to North Carolina or will make a pit stop at Mar-a-Lago before moving on to his rally.
Either way, the Trump plane is waiting at LaGuardia Airport.

Prospective juror bursts into tears during voir dire: 'This is so much more stressful than I thought it was going to be'

One female juror was just dismissed after bursting into tears shortly after Executive Assistant District Attorney Susan Hoffinger began addressing a pool of 18 possible jurors during voir dire.
"I thought I could do this, but I don't know," she said. "This is much more stressful than I thought it was going to be."
Justice Juan Merchan excused her after a brief conference at the bench.

Woman who did jail time tells court 'Good luck' after being excused from jury duty

The convicted felon prospective juror told the court "good luck" after she was excused from serving by the judge.
Justice Juan Merchan brought the woman back into the courtroom after a short break and thanked her for her bravery before dismissing her.
“I want to thank you again. What you just did is something most people in this courtroom would not do, so thank you," the judge said.
He explained that committing a felony won't bar her from serving on a jury, but she didn't have the right paperwork in order to serve. If she wants to serve in the future, she will need to bring the papers, the judge said.
As the woman was thanked for her time, she let out a loud "Good luck" in the open court.
The judge ordered that her reasons be sealed from the record.
Earlier, the woman, who said she served two years for a drug arrest, apologized for crying as she approached the well.
"Sorry for crying," said the woman, who later added that she served two years in prison.
“It was over 10 years ago and you guys keep calling me back for jury and I’m pretty sure I shouldn’t be here,” said the prospective panelist, who lives on the Upper East Side.
Her answers were perhaps the most heartfelt of all responses so far, and Donald Trump himself kept a close eye on her when she was speaking.

McCarthy should have never been Speaker and perhaps this whole debacle would have never happened.
How much were Johnson and McCarthy truly working on behalf of the GOP and their constituents?
Yes, the GOP now has an absolute fiasco on their hands as do the American people -- the DEMS have a super majority. I predict, coming very soon; amnesty for ALL ILLEGALS. There will be no way that a Republican will be seated again.
It's completely over. We've lost our Republic. This is my opinion. I realize that there are a few in here that think that America is doing just fine and we'll see sunnier days. However, I definitely don't see that happening in my lifetime.

The Biden administration finalized its much-anticipated Title IX rules Friday morning, overturning much of the Trump-era rules and expanding the definition of sex to include transgender identities.
The new rules only pertain to the sexual harassment and discrimination portions of Title IX, while an open rulemaking process is set to address issues with transgender participation in sports. The sports rules are not likely to be finalized until after the 2024 election.
Much of the redefinition of sex is fueled by the Supreme Court’s decision in Bostock v. Clayton County, where Justice Neil Gorsuch applied an expansive claimed gender identity framework to the definition of sex as it relates to employment discrimination under Title VII.
While Gorsuch wrote that Bostock would only narrowly apply to Title VII, President Joe Biden issued a day-one executive order requiring the entire federal government to apply its reasoning to everything it does. The final rule applies Bostock to Title IX.
“For over half a century, Title IX has opened doors, expanded access, and promised fairness. Before Title IX was passed in 1972, women and girls didn’t have equal access to education in this country,” Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said on a call with reporters Thursday evening. “That was unacceptable then, and it’s unfathomable now.”
“Title IX promises that no person experiences sex discrimination, including sex-based harassment, or sexual violence in federally funded education,” Cardona added.

Zakiya Carr Johnson thinks America is a “failed historic model” — a society so awful, so laden with racism, misogyny, and patriarchy, that we can no longer try to tweak it or improve it. “Time has run out” on America, as she put it in a blog post she has since deleted.
More and more, we hear similar troubling messages from Americans in everyday life. Just this month, a pro-Hamas demonstrator told a YouTuber that the protest he was leading was really about “getting rid of America, getting rid of the West.”
“Everyone here understands that at some level, we need to get rid of America. Completely,” he said, motioning toward the crowd of demonstrators. He was by no means the only pro-Hamas protestor to make this type of statement, but he got some attention because Elon Musk reposted the exchange on X (formerly Twitter), receiving over 40 million views.
In the case of Carr Johnson, her views — that America is so suffused with racism, with misogyny, and with colonialism that “to make any change, we have to dismantle that traditional structure at every juncture” — should warrant the attention of all 330 million Americans.
After all, Secretary of State Antony Blinken just this month appointed Carr Johnson as the State Department’s head of diversity, equity, and inclusion. From this position, she can influence the actions of all our diplomats, assistant secretaries, and undersecretaries. She can affect our foreign policy.
Carr Johnson is the exemplar of a new political and cultural warrior that we call “NextGen Marxist.” Even though we had not heard her name before we wrote the book, she is the reason we both sat down to write “NextGen Marxism: What It Is and How to Combat It.”
The idea that the country is systemically rotten (racist, patriarchal, heteronormative — fill in the blank) and that we live under an oppressive structure had been introduced into our universities since at least the 1980s. And in the wake of the 2020 Black Lives Matter and antifa riots, it has entered every nook and cranny of our lives. It has affected not only the upper reaches of the culture but of the Biden administration as well. ..................

Democrats are in the minority no longer. In a stunning historical development on Friday, Democrats seized upon a Republican surrender to take control of the agenda of the House floor.
An astonishing 165 Democrats voted for a rule from Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) to allow a $100 billion foreign aid supplemental package to the floor Saturday. The House will hold four votes on final passage for each of those packages, including a Ukraine funding bill with tens of billions of American taxpayer dollars.
Minority party members rarely vote for a procedural rule to allow the majority party’s agenda to proceed through the House. Doing so in such numbers is wildly unprecedented.
History was first made on Thursday, just before midnight, when, for the first time in recorded history — since the House began keeping records — the House Rules Committee relied on minority party votes to overcome objections from the majority and advance a rule bill to the House floor.
The powerful House Rules Committee, known for generations as “the Speaker’s Committee” for the control the speaker of the House possesses over the committee and its reputation as a rubber stamp for the speaker’s agenda, sets the floor agenda for the House through what are known as rules.
Johnson disregarded history and abandoned his own party despite its majority, however slim. With more Democrats voting to advance the House’s agenda than Republicans, the minority party has effectively taken control over the bills that will come before the House.
In the end, 151 supported the rule, with only 39 Republicans in opposition. The final tally was 316 to 94.
Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) is a messenger in the minority no longer. He has taken over.

Last Friday at midnight, the London Metal Exchange (LME) and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) enacted the most comprehensive limitation on Russian exports to date: a ban on all Russian metal produced after April 12. The move was made to bring the LME into compliance with the latest U.S. and U.K. sanctions imposed following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The goal is to prevent Russia from being able to profit from the export of metal produced by companies such as Rusal (aluminum) and Nornickel (nickel) which help the country fund its ongoing military operations in Ukraine.
“Russian metal warrants issued on or after 13 April 2024 for metal produced before 13 April 2024 are still subject to restrictions that prevent U.K. LME Members and clients from canceling or withdrawing the corresponding metal unless they are doing so for the account of a non-UK Client,” the LME wrote in a statement.
For their part, the CME told Reuters that they “are reviewing and will communicate any impact to our markets. We do not disclose the origin or brands of the eligible or registered metal we have in store and that is consistent across all of our physically delivered markets.”
The new sanctions have already resulted in the exploitation of new loopholes and trades within the LME system based on the technical nature of the contracts and corporate relationships.
For starters, the new regulations do not ban bilateral contracts between two companies, but only those made through the LME. Russian metals traded this way are expected to be available at a discount, and the ruling out of the LME and CME as destinations means there will be plenty of supply for these kinds of deals.
But during the first trading day under the new rules, another scheme emerged. According to a Bloomberg report, traders are making deals with the LME-approved warehouses to profit off the massive stocks of Russian metal that will not be sold, making it “the latest episode in a rich history of traders seeking to exploit loopholes to profit from giant stocks of aluminum on the LME, which can generate hundreds of millions of dollars a year in storage and handling fees.”.....................
