A reported meeting last month between Democratic darling Beto O’Rourke and Barack Obama has underscored the difficult position the former president finds himself in, as numerous allies and former administration members consider a 2020 White House bid and seek his counsel in the process.
Rep. O'Rourke, despite losing his highly competitive Senate race against Republican Ted Cruz in Texas, remains the subject of 2020 speculation. What was discussed during their meeting at Obama's office in Foggy Bottom is unknown, but a Washington Post report on the sit-down only added to the speculation that O’Rourke is readying his own presidential bid and perhaps looking for Obama’s blessing.

Recent failures? I would hope that the GOP would stand back and take a good long hard look at those races. The victory over Gillum was extremely thin and in one of the most conservative states, Cruz, a constitutional conservative won by a very narrow victory over Beto. I see both of them as candidates that could very easily win in 2020, especially since the demographics of the country are forever rapidly changing.
What I do notice is that the possible contenders are far to the left, socialist in nature and will have their ethnicity on their side; namely Castro, Gillum and Holder. All but one of the candidates has name recognition. Beto and Gillum will be recognized as the DEM candidates that the GOP stole votes from. Holder is a buddy of Bammy's who in some eyes fought for race relations. Trump has brought attention to Warren by his Pocahontas comments. Castro is the only one that so far doesn't have name recognition throughout the country, but I definitely wouldn't count him out and I consider him to be the most dangerous to this country.
Uncle Joe is my hope as I see him as the least destructive of all those mentioned so far.
With that being stated, I see a very real and likely possibility that the GOP will lose. Especially if the status quo remains. Forget the promises made by Trump. He hasn't delivered yet and with a DEM House, he won't. What will also hurt him is if the tax cuts aren't all he's proclaimed and if the tariffs continue to negatively affect the economy and jobs. He still hasn't won over the NT's and never will. I don't think that his GOP base will abandon ship, but certainly his independent and DEM voters might.
