I had a devil of a time trying to figure out how to rip these cds from a "read only" cd in .cda format ... I ain't the brightest fellow with this computer stuff, but 24 hours later, I got it done.

My mother always plays the 40s channel in the car. I like the music. If you want some good stuff from the 40s and 50s believe it or not Seth McFarlane has some really good albums where he sings standards. He’s got a wonderful voice.

My late father got his start in broadcasting as a radio DJ after WWII (he went on to TV by 1951). He had hundreds of 78s, and we grew up with an appreciation for the music of that era. My sister - an aspiring clarinetist - loved Benny Goodman, and had the chance to meet him when she was in high school. She was so starstruck she couldn't speak. Her friend had to say, "Mr. Goodman this is Mary and she's one of your biggest fans."

You know Pookie, seems to me a lot of white folks used to rip off colored folk's songs.... Sorta the reverse of today's rap music....

I am too old to care if I am called racist somehow by that surmise... but sure seems that way. Just didn't know so many hits had original artists from the black community. Thanks for sharing...

A lot of the early black artists did get a raw deal in many ways...especially monetarily. The white cover versions usually got more airplay & higher positions on the charts. I can't totally equate it to today's rap music in that (I don't think) the white rappers are doing many of the black rappers' songs...

Now, to go back to see if I have a few more comments/videos...

Been digesting Pookie's posts and decided I did a poor job of posting my previous few posts of 50s era songs...

I labeled all the songs "Artist - Song format" (no Meta Data still) and decided to release them in one download this time... Yep 149 songs here... almost 2/3rds a Gig size.

So here is the whole of the previous songs I released in one mega batch ... This time Songs are titled (but no meta data as that would of took forever)... Hope someone enjoys ... Just a repeat of the songs I posted above but in one folder (and titled)...

Again this is a big file 630 MBs size ... 149 songs in total

It's funny I notice this now, because this past week the local PBS station has been running an old pledge-drive special from '06 with a lot of those old '50s pop acts.

@Elderberry

Thanks for posting. Since this has been my ringtone for about 15 years, my natural reflex was to reach for my phone.  happy77 Then I realized I didn't have to answer the phone and could actually get down and get funky to the music. Never mind that it's almost 3 a.m. This and so many others give me the "can't help its" and I "can't sit down" regardless of the time of day (or night).

What an excellent selection for a ringtone! For many years, for a ringtone, I've used the Red Phone from the "In Like Flint" movie and for text I cut one of the "YOW!"s off the Zappa "Live at the Fillmore East" Album.

@Elderberry

Before "Honky Tonk," my ringtone was "Boot Scootin' Boogie." Funny story about that. I was in the produce department at Kroger when my phone began to ring. It took me a minute to fish it out of my purse and answer it. Just as I did, a woman who had moved toward the music said, "Oh, I wish you hadn't answered it. I wasn't through dancing to it!" She was someone I could completely identify with. :dancer:

Re your ringtone and text notification ... I'm not cool enough to be familiar with them. I went to YouTube to see what I could learn. Zappa is so not me, and the only "In Like Flynn" I'm familiar with was in the 70s and starred James Coburn. So, as you can see, I'm old, uncool and a bit stodgy (old fashioned) in my musical taste. It's okay. I own it. It's part of my charm.  :whistle:

Obviously I didn't get here in time to enjoy the oldies within the 3-day listening window. That didn't keep me from sitting up till the wee hours of the morning singing a few lines from each song or sometimes an entire song of the ones you had listed in your posts. I'm a little hoarse today, but I had fun cycling through all those oldies. Thanks for starting this thread.

To @pookie18 and others who are posting links to YouTube. Would it be possible to provide a name and an artist when posting those links? It's so frustrating to click over and find that the video has been removed. If we had the info, we could go searching for the same version uploaded by another YouTuber. That's what I learned to do on my YouTube playlists. I always add the info about the video in the "edit" section of my playlist. Learned that lesson the hard way, but it's serving me well now as I can almost always find another upload.

Gotta love that red phone tone. That sound is parked somewhere in the deepest recesses of my gray matter. It's been decades since I saw that movie, so it was only vaguely familiar. How often are people around you able to identify its origin?

What a fun piece of music! It's a very different experience to hear it as a stand-alone piece as opposed to the background music of a cartoon. Glad you shared it.

@Sighlass

Born in the late 40s, I'm experientially familiar with the songs of the 50s. Since I like music so much, I made sure to reach back and become at least somewhat familiar with classics from the 30s and 40s. My enthusiasm for new music waned when rock music (screechy, angry, violent, rebellious) became so prevalent. When YouTube came into my life, I was able to bypass all the music I didn't like and find songs I hadn't heard for years. I have a LOT of vinyl that encompasses several genres and spans 40 decades, but it's so much easier to just go to YouTube. I love doo-wop/sock-hop, classic country, R&B, Gaithers, contemporary Christian from the 80s, show tunes, and all Glen Campbell performances 44444heart. I've been known to sit down for "just a few minutes" to listen to a little music and end up staying for 2, 3 up to 4 hours.

I'm glad you are feeling well, although I didn't know you hadn't been. (My attendance on TBR is spotty, so I don't know all the players.) Congratulations on getting projects done. That has to feel good! Thank You, Jesus, indeed.

This didn't quite make it under the wire since it was released in 1960, but I'm going to include to anyway. In my head and heart, it seems to belong with the others. Notice that one of the brothers is Ed Ames (My Cup Runneth Over with Love - 1967).

I really liked Miss Ann by Little Richard. That's a definite 10 out of 10 for dancing. Now, if I just had a partner.  :shrug:

Am I the only one who wonders why they would call someone Patty when her real name is Linda Lu? Possibly a hidden meaning that escapes me? :shrug: Whatever the case, I love the song. It only requires 4 notes to realize you have to get up and dance when it comes on. Or you can dance in your chair. You just can't keep still. That's a misdemeanor at the very least.

Interesting song, dates back to 1915  and the original lyrics are not PC in todays environment (darkies)....

Mandolins, violins
Hear the darkies tunin' up, the fun begins
Come this way, don't delay, better hurry
Honey dear, or you'll be missin'
Music sweet, ragtime treat
Goes right to your head and trickles to your feet
It's a reminder, a memory finder
Of nights down in old Alabam'

Seems the same writers of this song had another hit the previous year 1914.... Called "All aboard for Dixie Land"....

Thanks Tom ... like your version best. Sorry for rambling, just sometimes I get lost in the music and internet searches. Been listening to the music others (Pookie and Jazz) have put up and have had a good lazy few hours... need to get going again.

@Sighlass

Boy, do I get that! Sometimes I will sit at my computer for hours because one song, artist, songwriter, technique will lead to another search. And then another. At some point you don't even know how many rabbit trails brought you to where you are or where you even started!

At my advanced age, plus having no accountability to anyone for my time, it's a luxury I can afford. Sure, there are things that don't get done when they "should." But the earth has never ceased to rotate on its axis, and I have enjoyed myself immensely. There's one thing that will make me interrupt one of those sessions when I'm immersed in music and that's an Astros game. Other than that, I seem helpless to stop myself!  :silly:

Black Slacks by the Carolina group, Jeff Bennet and the Sparkletones listed above, they had some act, watch them. By the way, on Simon and Garfunkel's live album, they have a very brief cover of the song... and it has been covered by a lot of artists.

Thank you for posting that! I think of that song from time to time, but by the time I get around to finding it, it's already slid off my brain. Too much data on this ol' hard drive.

That song always reminds me of my mother. She got such a kick out of it. Would dance to it and would sing along, even with the trilling sound that you so excellently spelled out. She had an awful voice, but I loved hearing her get down to the song.

Here's another one that she and I used to enjoy from that same time frame.

Here's another one that she and I used to enjoy from that same time frame.

Daddy tolerated us and all the carrying on with our music, but his taste was more along these lines. I might add that this recording sounds a heap better than the old 78 we had.

Yes, I knew "Green Door" and as for "Black Slacks", the cover is important because it introduces these songs to a whole new generation. Some people are into the 1950s scene so much, they get old refrigerators and so on in their house.  These kind showed me a lot of music I never knew existed, 1950s, I'd know the main songs, Elvis, songs from American Graffiti and so on.

I'm not that big of a fan of the song itself but the video is fun:

Error 404 (Not Found)!!1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIlYMPeA0sg#)

In my humble opinion, Wally Lewis penned "Kathleen" and this is a great R 'n' R ballad:

Glen Glenn's take, nice interpretations of the same song.

Keep the oldies coming, let the good times roll.

Kind of a silly song today ... Not that the song(s) are silly, or the artist (Elvis) but that they crammed so many songs in such a short space...

See how many songs you hear in this "Medley" that is just under 4 minutes long....

Fun stuff! I'd never heard this side of them. I've got some errands to run today, but I can see I'll be drawn back to the computer later and find myself blissfully lost in some rabbit trails of discovery and entertainment. In the meantime, here's another live performance I got a kick out of from the 70s. Enjoy!

My old computer coughs and sputters when I try to access these things, so I always mosey over to YouTube and play them. I wasn't really familiar with the first one, so I found it at YT and played it. It sounded only vaguely familiar, but what really caught my attention was this image (below) on the video.

My parents gave me a 2nd-hand red Comet for a graduation present. Seeing this radio brought back so many memories of cruising the main drag in town or going down to Galveston and cruising the beach. I remember driving down Seawall Boulevard and all us girls singing along to "Help Me Rhonda." IIRC, it was the #1 song that summer ('65). What fun memories! We still get together every couple of months for 5-hour lunches.

Thanks for sparking those memories for me!

Your most certainly welcome... thanks for making my day knowing someone is getting something out of these songs...

I tried my link out and got two steps to download...

First they ask you to accept cookies, since the European countries started making web sites display what they do to you, they have to disclose they put cookies on you ... otherwise European countries sometimes block websites that don't disclose this.. far as I can tell they are harmless cookies and since I delete cookies each time I close my browser I don't mind. Most all web sites (including this one) put cookies on ya.

(https://i.postimg.cc/26c4GRyZ/Image-1.jpg)

Next it will show you the file size you are downloading... and all you have to do is click download... and it should start downloading... (or ask you where you want it downloaded)...

(https://i.postimg.cc/bvLbYcQB/Image-2.jpg)

Next it is a little more tricking, once downloaded, you will have to "unzip" the download since I did all the songs together in a folder... most computer have a unzip program now days, if you have old computer like mine, then I listed some options (programs) to do this in another thread... (linked below)... free program 7zip

@AllThatJazzZ
Well to be fair, I had the 8-track hanging under the dash...
That was late 70's early 80's... Listening to a whole lot of Waylon and Willie, Johnny Paycheck, Chris LeDoux. and Mo Bandy...

And oddly enough, a full compliment of the Beach Boys. Them, Peter, Paul, and Mary, AND the Kingston Trio... There ain't a song they made I don't know by heart.

Funny how long that good ol stuff stayed relevant.

edit: And BTW, We only had two stations on the AM back then, so the push button thing was not a problem...

Thanks for the instructions. The truth is that I'm fine with going to YouTube. It's kinda what I do. It's the next best thing to having all my 45s (hundreds) on jukeboxes. The only downside is that I tend to sit down to hear a handful of songs and don't get up till about 2 hours later.

I had a '79 Lincoln I picked up for $500, long after it left the showroom. Still had the factory 8 track and even a CB radio! Whatta boat, great on the highway! Only problem was the 400 modified under the hood. Can't idle it to warm it up (it carbons up), and were supposed to warm it up on the fly, which just doesn't work in North Dakota winters (no defrost!).

Well, I'm a fan of do-wop type music. You can always find something to sing or harmonize with (as best I can, anyway--there's a reason I'm a geologist, when I sing the rocks don't throw themselves), and besides all that, it's upbeat, full of energy. I like that era best, but it goes primarily through the 50s and 60s.

It's a great thread, @Sighlass though I have my fill of music downloads... I converted my entire library to digital long ago... I have about 40g of mp3s I keep shoving around, though I don't know why. Like @AllThatJazzZ , I tend to Youtubin around the house, and still tend to listen to the radio more than anything else (in the kitchen, out in the shop, and on the road). I kinda like radio for the not knowing what's coming next... I haven't cracked my lib in a year or two...

There's a lot here that's impressive, but I am fascinated by (and a little jealous of) people who can yodel. Do you think it's a natural gift, or can people be taught?

Also, re the stringed instruments you play... can you read music, or do you play by ear?

There's a lot here that's impressive, but I am fascinated by (and a little jealous of) people who can yodel. Do you think it's a natural gift, or can people be taught?

Aw, anyone can do it... It was how folks hollered to each other back in the day. That's what folks do wrong, trying. Too timid. At least when starting, you've got to mean it - Belt it out. Kinda like gulping water backwards... without the vomit.  :laugh:  Really have to open the throat.

Quote
Also, re the stringed instruments you play... can you read music, or do you play by ear?

Nope. Can't read a lick.  :shrug:
Just picked up a guitar one day and never put it down. Learned pickin on Wildwood Flower... My folks still can't stand that song, I'll tell you what... Picked up the rest as I went along, and went semi-pro... played bars and honkytonks for a while, and was in the house band for a small recording studio...

Then life happened. Figured out I hit my limit, and like wrangling horses, there just wasn't any money in it.

Having a hard time sleeping tonight because LAST NIGHT I tripped over uneven concrete in my driveway and took a hard splat. Tonight I'm really feeling it. I'm ready to take something for pain and try again to get some sleep. Who knew I'd still be hurting like this since my fall was LAST NIGHT?

I get that @AllThatJazzZ ... The third day after a fall is the worst for me...  :shrug:

Hope you're alright.

Understand, I think part of the glue of this forum has to do with the fact that most of us are not spring chickens anymore. We all are conservatives in some sort of fashion, but there is a respect that we know each other as humans beyond the political differences. I don't take falls lightly anymore, most of us don't. So it is nice to have nice folks to share a story of a fall with, even late at night. I pray you make it through this with nothing but a brief bad memory. Next week it may be me sharing a story or two in a similar vein. @AllThatJazzZ

I've got some errands to run today, but I can see I'll be drawn back to the computer later and find myself blissfully lost in some rabbit trails of discovery and entertainment. In the meantime, here's another live performance I got a kick out of from the 70s. Enjoy!

@AllThatJazzZ

Yeah I know... As it turns out, there is an alt lyric that is often offered for the song:

"My beard a rustlin cold towel"

If you were to search the lyrics, I am sure you will find them both ways.
It being one of my favorite songs, it ain't the first time I heard it presented that way. I think somebody somewhere wrote it down wrong back in the day.  :shrug:

I ain't as much of a stickler, as I had heard it done wrong before.

I still like the cover - and I rarely like covers... Maybe it's just the banjo  :laugh:

Interesting, although I don't understand what "my beard a rustlin' cold towel" might mean. Or why a woman is singing about her beard. Sign of the times?

Glen Campbell is my absolute favorite entertainer, and there are a few instances on some of my favorite videos where he gets the lyrics wrong. In almost every case, it lessens my enjoyment of the song. A couple of them are accidental, and people wouldn't ever know if they weren't lyric nuts. A couple of them are deliberate. He decided to update "She's Gone, Gone, Gone" by changing "train" to "plane." It doesn't work for me. However, he changed a lyric in Allen Toussaint's "Southern Nights," and I like it far better. He first recorded it as Toussaint had written it: "Every flower touched his cold hand." That line made me sad, and I guess it had the same effect on Glen because in later performances, he changed "cold" to "gentle." Yes!

This is my favorite version of "Southern Nights." I have to hear it at least once a week.

@AllThatJazzZ
Yeah... I guess I am a lot the same way - I tend not to like concerts because the artist will often want to change it up a little bit after singing the same ol thing several hundred times. I tend to like studio better for that reason... A proper version, set in stone.

Maybe that is partly from working in a bar band, as by far and away, what you are doing is playing covers, And in almost all things, you'd better strive to play it right, or the crowd will have your head.
The closer you can come to that famous (studio) version, the better.

St. James Infirmary Blues is an American jazz song of uncertain origin. Louis Armstrong made the song famous in his 1928 recording on which Don Redman was credited as composer; later releases gave the name Joe Primrose, a pseudonym of Irving Mills. The melody is 8 bars long, unlike songs in the classic blues genre, where there are 12 bars. It is in a minor key, and has a 4/4 time signature, but has also been played in 3/4.

Thanks for the lists. I have a confession to make. I use your lists as a "cheat sheet" and pick out the songs I want to hear, then I go over to YouTube and find the versions I like best. I've been known to spend 3 or 4 hours there when I get on one of my music kicks. It happens more often than you might think.  wink777

I know that Bing Crosby did it in 1942, but I love this version (& the cute cartoon)!

@pookie18

Thanks, I always appreciate what you post, a lot of useful knowledge.

I guess. to remember, he has so many songs, maybe I will post some Elvis-related music...need, we forget, Elvis passed on on this day, August 16, 1977.

Called the Female Elvis, Janis Martin:

Error 404 (Not Found)!!1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ls_dn2anjjs#)

Then, a friend of mine likes these clips:

Error 404 (Not Found)!!1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8k1aSrkiHvA#)

Judy Tyler appeared with Elvis in one of his movies, she apparently is another one of those stars who died young, car accident.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judy_Tyler (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judy_Tyler)
Sad, it happens nowadays but it seemed to happen a lot back then.

Error 404 (Not Found)!!1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0190Cb9KEmI#)

So, this is a tribute song? Wow, via France, I found out this... as if we Americans know this. Judy Tyler, pretty sad story, very beautiful.

---------

Two great female singers from the '50s,

Well, there may not be that much we think of about Nebraska but if you ever meet someone from there, ask them if they know who Sparkle Moore is, this gal had real talent and my understanding is that she left the recording business and didn't pursue it. Of the female rockabilliers at least, pretty much tops....very Elvisey I'd say up there along with the likes of Buddy Holly, didn't pursue it. Is still alive, born in 1939 so, very young apparently, okay, 1936, still when she recorded songs like this.

Rock A Bop - Sparkle Moore
Error 404 (Not Found)!!1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgJucbhPNkM#)

So, if you ever meet someone from the great state of Nebraska,  I'll have to see where she came to record these, I once read a book from the library but basically, it had all this detailed info about where so many singles and albums were recorded in the day and all of the other relevant info. Sort of a reference.

To Fats Domino, man, I've seen his boxset, most of us know his big hits.... but he did a lot of work.

There's a shanty in a town on a little plot o' ground
With the green grass growin' all around, all around
The roof's so worn, so badly torn
That it tumbles to the ground

Just a tumbledown shack and it's built way back
About twenty-five feet from the railroad track
Lingers on my mind most all of the time
Keeps callin' me back to my little old shack

Good songs, that's also very fascinating music, I will have to look this up, I already listen to a Burgess tune, of course, we all know who Ricky and Glenn were. I will post that Trophies video in another forum at some point, I'll bet they didn't know this was a band either. Rock City Boogie Forum though, it's kind of not that popular, I learned a lot there.

@Elderberry

Already have one,but why would ANYONE want to listen to music over a freaking cell phone? I despise the damn things.I only use mine for phone calls,and don't even like getting calls on it because most of them are robo calls or calls from people I have never heard of and don't want to hear from,like my ex,who seems to be between husbands at the moment,or "friends" I only hear from when they want something for free.

I am at the point now where I just keep it turned off unless I want to make a call. If I missed a call from someone I know and want to hear from,I just call them back.

I don't take or make emails from my cell phone,either. That's why I have a computer.

I use my cell phone and Bluetooth earbuds all the time at the gym and while on trails (events or work-outs). Usually using Pandora, but in locations without cell reception I use music stored on my phone. I ALWAYS have my phone, CDL, medical card, and a credit card with me, for obvious safety reasons.

Quick Ping to @sneakypete (forgot to do it previously)... found the rest of your songs. Sorry about the delay... See previous posts...

@pookie18 for some music perhaps he doesn't have...

I think this music is 50s and 60s stuff so forgive if I have it in wrong category. I looked up one song and it said 1960... so may be both eras.

Thanks! I'm supposed to get the transmitter for my wi-fi headphones tomorrow. You would think they would either charge you more and include it,or tell you that you have to buy one to make the headphones work,doesn't it?

There are no "Socialists", no "Progressives", only Communists, with every negative image that totalitarianism might muster, demanding fealty and conformity to their views, with a legacy of 150,000,000 dead and counting.

@Smokin Joe

YES! THAT! EVERT word of it. The Communists even banned every bit of this music back in the 40's and 50's because it REPRESENTED FREEDOM!

NEVER FORGET!

Thanks Pookie !

Pretty cool song Jazzy.... I had never heard it, it is like that the songs breaths... and just wish it built up on where it left off... almost needed an Elvis crooning exit to complete it. Thanks for posting !

@Sighlass

Here's a better version by Tom Jones. I posted Ben E. King's version because, so far as I know, it was the original. Original is usually best, but not always. Enjoy Tom's cover!

Good for your kids. I hope they appreciate that you did that for them. I'm amazed at how many people of all generations haven't of clue of music from eras that came before theirs.

Another item that might interest a few folks... It was a "HISTORY of Country Music" 6 LP collection... and it gave a brief background of each song... which I found sorta annoying yet informative. Some of these songs go way back to the 20s and later...

For example the series starts off with a 1927 yodeling country song "T for Texas"...

Anyhoo, Country is not my fortay... so I will let yall sort it out...

This is ONE huge download at nearly 2/3rds a gig in size (and each Mp3 song is in top quality @320kbps)

If anybody ever tells you they like rock and blues,but can't tolerate country,you know you are dealing with a clueless fool that needs to be set down and forced to listen to a Hank Williams album. The man was a freaking musical and lyrical genius.

I used to call Hank Williams music "Music to slash your wrists by". That man was doomed to die early at birth. Nobody can have that much sad stored up inside them,and keep living.

Thanks Pookie and Jazz .... and pete too... I ain't the biggest country fan, but I do like a few of them here and there. The Sons of the Pioneers song "Cool Waters" is just awesome... Ghost Riders (in the sky) is one those songs you hear once and can whistle it the rest of your life... same can be said of "The Tennessee Waltz"...  and "Sixteen Tons"...

But I ain't a Hank Williams fan, never will be.

@Sighlass

That's okay. I love his music enough for two people, so it comes out even.  wink777

Here's my favorite performance of Hank's "I'm so Lonesome I Could Cry." No one else has delivered the lyric with such abject heartbreak -- not even Glen in his other performances of the same song.

@AllThatJazzZ

The REAL HANK,NOT the "half-a-Hank", wrote lyrics that cut right through the bone.

This 1989 rarity did a good job of a clean remix (keeping the original base) of a few Marylin songs she did in the 50s... From Pop to Blues...

Yeah, I see why, much more emotion in his voice... Great song... I remember my mother singing this song.

I think @sneakypete songs were from the 70s (1974 I think wiki said) ... but it is all good. Kinda a Charlie Daniels sound or Hank Jr.

@Signlass

The Link Wray songs I posted were from an early 70's album,but the songs date to the 50's and 60's.

Link Wray invented that style of guitar playing.

Here is a song by Link Wray from 1958 that was actually banned from air play because it was thought to "incite violence". Not a single word spoken or sung in it,it is,AFAIK,the ONLY instrumental song to ever be banned from playing on the air.

Yeah, I googled the fellow after your first post.... I had heard of him, but just barely. Neat trivia on this being banned...Some folks in comments said he stuck screwdrivers in the amp to get the sound, I think wiki said he just dropped it a few times to mess it up some.

Oddity post here... some history buffs may enjoy it.... Deutsche Hits  1930-1937

German music pre-WW2... Part One... Part Two later as time presents itself.

Hat Tip to Half Hearted Dude Blog... (http://halfhearteddude.com/2020/05/deutsche_hits_1930-37/ (http://halfhearteddude.com/2020/05/deutsche_hits_1930-37/) )

Visit the above link for a good insight into the artists... and what is known about their ties to the regime developing.

This songs sound great but are not all top quality (some were hard to find in the quality they are presented w/ a bitrate between 128 to 320kbps and often at a variable bit rate). Deal with it.

Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs - Stay

Dang Pete, song was just a minute and half long... Dang, they could fill some radio gaps with that short a play time. Great song, thanks for sharing.

Like the live version better, more of that high notes.

The Gladiolas - Little Darlin

Hope I don't get stoned, but still like the Diamond's cover of the song better. Nice to know the original song though and it really wasn't changed that much by The Diamonds.

But once again, more songs that ended up being composed by a black artist and sorta whitified (my word) to appeal to a bigger audience.

In that era songs were typically short--not that short. 2-2.5 minutes.

Generally not much longer, until FM in the 70s.

Hank "Music to slash your wrists by" Williams.

And some people STILL fail to see a connection between country music and blues.
