The difference between y'all and me is that I can accept the reality of a flawed candidate if the alternative is Joe Biden (or any Dem who will step in to build on what Biden has already destroyed). I can wait until the Republican ship can be turned back to more conservative tenets when the alternative means that Dems will be entrenched for so many years, the Republican party could end up as a footnote in the history books.

Y'all believe, for whatever reason, that 4 more years of Biden won't crumble the Republic. Either that or you believe that Trump would crumble it as much as Biden and that Republican/conservatives will live to right the ship. I'm neither optimistic nor pessimistic. I'm just realistic. As I said before, because of my advanced age, I most likely won't have to witness the worst of it.

"Baseball is like church. Many attend, few understand."

I can't verify who actually said that. Some sources say former Major League catcher and manager Wes Westrum said it. More sources attribute the quote to another long-time Major League manager, Leo Durocher.

Leo was known by many names: The All-American Out, Swamper, Lippy, and Leo the Lip. As a manager, he was quite well-known for his direct, often confrontational style. Though he left pro baseball many decades ago, he is still near the top of the list for most ejections from a game. He was also quite well-known for winning. He was not, however, known as a church-goer. It seems that if the quote truly is his, though, then he had some experience in the church world. At least enough to understand that most of us are in a process of making sense of the mysteries of faith… and baseball.

How is baseball like church?
Let's face it. Baseball frustrates the uninitiated. My young son exemplified this when he yelled "What are you doing?!" at a pitcher who had just issued an intentional walk. A key principle of the game is to keep runners off base. So why did the pitcher purposefully put a runner on?

We attend. But we don't understand.

However, baseball excites and inspires us, too. Some inspiration is found in the tension we experience while we are constantly searching for better understanding. I've followed the game for a few decades, yet each season reveals new and fascinating peculiarities to the game. I love learning more.

Should I expect anything different from church? Afterall, church and baseball hold many similarities...

"10 ways baseball is like church:

Most of us have some experience with it.

Sometimes it feels like it will never end.

So. Many. Traditions.

Long lines for food and drink.

It requires sacrifice.

At some point, we all get to stand and sing.

It's a team endeavor.

There's something beautifully unifying in traditions.

"Home" is the final destination.

Participants will never be perfect… but we get to play anyway."

I have a bit of a photographic memory when it comes to tunes. I never forget em. They're in there. I won't remember em for years, but all it takes is the first few chords, and the whole thing comes flooding in.

It's a terrible malady. A piece of work will send me to the stacks... It only has to sound like something... and then I have to recall the sound. which recalls a song.

Just happened the other day. Some little bit of tune set me off... Turns out it recalled 'Little Miss Can't Be Wrong' by the Spin Doctors. I know, I know... Weird coming from a redneck... I have an eclectic taste... The point being it took me all day to figure it out. But I played the song, and the first few bars told me that was it, and finally listening (and singing along) scratched that itch.

That happens literally all the time.  **nononono*

@roamer_1

Brother, I totally hear you. Every word (except the Spin Doctors part since I've never heard that song, although I, too, am eclectic). I'd take issue with you in calling it a malady. I LOVE being this way. I used to believe everyone was like this, until I realize that other people didn't get reminded of songs throughout the day. One day a friend pointed out that I had a song for everything, and I thought, huh! Why don't you? That's when I figured out that the rest of the world was weird and not normal like me.   wink777

Michigan Democrats regain full control of state government for first time in 40 years

.

In Tuesday’s special election in Michigan, Democrats won both House seats on the line, reclaiming control of the Michigan House.

Both candidates who won, Mai Xiong of the 13th District and Peter Herzberg of the 25th District, were in areas that heavily favored Democrats. Democrats are now in control of both chambers of the state legislature as well as the office of the governor, giving them control of the entire state’s government.

“I am incredibly humbled for the overwhelming support of the voters of the 13th House District, who have chosen me to represent our community as the next State Representative,” Xiong said on X. “Michigan holds a special place in my heart, as it has been a beacon of hope for me and my family. I’ve cherished the opportunities this state has provided, from receiving a higher education to finding meaningful employment, starting a business, and raising a family.”

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D-MI) congratulated Herzberg and Xiong on X. Lawmakers in Michigan are expected to focus on their state budget. Whitmer previously asked Michigan’s legislature to pass the $80 billion budget that provides free community college to all high school graduates as well as universal free preschool for 4-year-olds.

Herzberg and Xiong won their districts by large margins. Herzberg won his district with 59.6% of the vote, and Xiong won her district with 65.6% of the vote.

Again, I say that we're getting another Biden term and who knows who will end up sitting in the Oval once they've secured 4 more years?

But I'm so glad for you, @jmyrlefuller! You can enjoy your revenge during the Dem administration. And all the ones after that. There will be many years for celebration for you and the others, but mercifully, I'm old and won't have to endure the dismantling of our republic that much longer.

Why would you frame it like that? Do you think you can shame him into casting away his beliefs?
That is a ridiculous fabrication.

I certainly am not operating in any sort of vengeance.
I just can't stand the stench.

You think I'm celebrating not having anyone I can vote for yet again? Nobody who represents my values? Nobody who will run this country the right way? Do you think I WANT the kooks who are in charge now, still in charge? Of course not. But the Republicans at this point are no better. Your star Senate candidate is Larry Hogan, who went along with the lockdowns hook, line and sinker. Spare me.

Revenge will be when all these crooks, Democrat and Republican, are never able to sniff a national or state capital ever again.
