Ballplayer gets Marine Corps Ball invite

Just days after his baseball team won the National League East Division title, Washington Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper was already getting the star treatment.
Lance Cpl. Stephanie Butler, who is assigned to Camp Pendleton, Calif., has invited Harper to this year’s Marine Corps Birthday Ball, according to NBC 4 TV in Washington.
“Congratulations on your recent Divisional Championship!” Butler posted on the ballplayer’s Facebook page. “Bryce Harper, on November 9th will you go with me to the Marine Corps Ball??”
The 21-year-old Virginian, who enlisted three years ago, told the television station she still enjoys watching the Nationals play, even though she is now on the West Coast.
Since her plea, Harper’s Facebook page has been bombarded with messages from people telling him he should accept the invite.
