A friend of mine had a finch and it had six babies about a month ago.

Has anyone here ever had a pet bird?

I have. happy77 Parakeets, canaries, lovebirds, one parrot and finches (zebra). Finches are prolific breeders. Hopefully your friend has a separate cage for the hen and chicks. The rest of the flock, including the rooster will all get grumpy eventually.

(On the outside I've had/have chickens, geese and guineas. And of course the wild ducks.)

Thanks @berdie

The chicks have already hatched. She’s looking for good homes for them, and thought I might be interested.

I am, but it’s the next state over, and if I go, I have to quarantine for two weeks after.

I love birds of all kinds @Gefn . I think there are ups and downs as there is with all pets. I'm not sure what type finch your friend has.

On the up side, they can be very affectionate (if they are the lone bird), you don't have to take them on a walk and unless you get a parrot they are pretty low cost for vet expense.

On the down side, they are messy, can be loud and will drive a cat or dog to distraction.

I've had birds most of my life but right now...not so much. I'm enjoying the freedom of not taking care of any inside animals. My last stint involved buying all the birds at the local dime store that I felt weren't being cared for properly. 2 love birds. 9 parakeets and 20 or so finches. It kind of broke me of my habit, lol. But the house was alive with the sound of music/screeching. This was in addition to 6 large rowdy dogs and 3 high falutin' cats. So for the time being...I'm good being "inside petless".

Like I said, I don't know what kind of finch you are talking about. But before the "deluge" I had a parakeet that was super affectionate and could even speak few words. But he was a single bird..I was his flock.

Lol @roamer_1 . I can't argue with that. I think I'll just stick with the outside birds for the moment. I can't imagine how many parakeets it would take to make a "mess".

I had an orange wing amazon parrot for twenty-five years.

My daughter wanted parakeets.  They bossed  him around.   He didn't know what to make of them.

Then he went out and played with the huskies.   Poor bird.

This is my favorite type of video. I watch a lot of "The DoDo" and "Hope for Paws" videos for my sanity.

My little guy didn't know what to think of his world when I first rescued him. Now he's king of the palace. Three quarters blind, 13 1/2 years old, and peppy as a puppy. Dear God, I'm blessed!

I love the DoDo videos!  Did you see the one with the baby elephant that was trapped with lions all around?  The mommy protected the baby and a bunch of other elephants blocked the lions while the mommy pushed the baby out of the trench...

I have now. Thanks for the heads-up, but you should have told me I'd probably need a Kleenex.

I posted one a year or two ago about an uber fat dog what was adopted by a lady. She invested time and effort into getting that weight off him, and by the end of the video, he was like a new dog. I so admire people like her. I get very upset when I see a fat pet. They can't get like that by themselves, and they're going to be the ones to pay for the obesity. Painful joints, inability to play, weight-related illnesses, early death. Too sad.

I've been watching cat/dog rescue videos on YouTube lately passing a little time before turning in.

Some of the rescues/rehabilitations are downright amazing, animals on the verge of death brought back to good health.

The saved critters seem to know it, too, and many show great affection for the humans that brought them back.

Rescued animals are the best. Both my two cats were shelter kitties. The last one was at the shelter for three years before I adopted her.❤️

If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.
