Bruce DuMont dies at 81

DuMont, the nephew of early television pioneer Allen DuMont, was a somewhat obscure but influential broadcaster who was best known for his weekend syndicated talk show Beyond the Beltway and founding the Museum of Broadcast Communications and taking over the Radio Hall of Fame.

DuMont ended his career in ignominy when he began publicly dating and eventually married convicted gay child pornographer Kevin Fuller (no relation) in the late 2010s, which led to his forced retirement from the museum.

Bobby Hart has died at the age of 86 at his home in Los Angeles after his health declined followed a hip break last year.

The sad news was shared by his friend and co-author Glenn Ballantyne.

The musician wrote songs for the popular 1960s pop band the Monkees which consisted of Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork.

Hart worked on their theme song for their TV show simply titled The Monkees.

The series was about antics of four boys who make up the rock 'n' roll band the Monkees are captured in this freewheeling 1960s series.

Hart also penned Last Train to Clarksville as well as (I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone.

He certainly outlived Tommy who suicided in 1994. It’s kind of sad that the obit seems to play up The Monkees more that be about Hart. Boyce and Hart had a lot more going than some songs for The Monkees.

"Butch Cassidy" and "The Sting" were released before my college years, and more than a few girls had the posters on their dorm walls. He was a good actor, politics notwithstanding.

For some reason...maybe the co-star Max von Sydow, my most memorable is Three Days of the Condor

Jeremiah Johnson. I think it was filmed on or near his Utah ranch.  Beautiful cinematography. Loved the movie.  If i'm channel surfing and come across it I will watch it.

Oh and the Twilight Zone episode.  Baby Redford in that one. That is a must watch too.

If we were like the liberals we would be sliming him for his political views, and saying he should have passed years ago. But we’re not like the left and we can disagree with Redford’s politics but still celebrate his accomplishments.

I think he was better in the lighthearted roles, e.g., "Butch Cassidy" and "The Sting," although I did like "The Natural." He was completely miscast in "Out of Africa," but it still was a memorable movie (mostly for the scenery).

"Out of Africa" is on my top ten movies of all-time list but not because Redford is in it. There are many good actors who could have played that part as well or better than Redford did. Just my $0.02.

I thought Redford did a phenomenal job directing “Quiz Show”. Ralph Fiennes was incredible.

Nobody has mentioned "The Electric Horseman". Yeah, I know Jane Fonda was in it, too.

That film has the best opening sequence of any movie I've ever seen.
By the time the credits are done, you have learned enough about Sonny Steele to understand exactly why he's where he is and how he feels about it...

Electric Horseman was a great movie! As was the Horse Whisperer, Jeremiah Johnson and Out Of Africa. If I think long enough I'm sure I'll think of more.

Lib as he was, he was still a good actor. As far as his looks...I liked him better as he aged and wasn't so pretty.

I thought Redford was an excellent actor.  I enjoyed him in movies.  His politics were extreme liberal nonsense, but he did not wear it on his sleeve 24/7 like so many.

With my wife getting into hiking in a huge way, we watched A Walk in the Woods with Redford and Nick Nolte.  I must say, there were a number of scenes that were a hoot.  We enjoyed it so much, we watched it twice in one week.

And two other favorites, Three Days of the Condor and The Natural.  Both excellent movies, classics.
