14-year-old student critically injured in stabbing at Nashville high school

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Two students were injured in a stabbing at a Nashville high school Thursday afternoon.
According to Metro Nashville Police, the students were returning to the gym at Overton High School after a short break, when the 15-year-old suspect walked over to a 14-year-old student and immediately began stabbing them.
Teachers and a school resource officer administered aid to the 14-year-old victim. The student suffered critical injuries to his jaw and neck. The student was transported to Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital.
Police said the suspect used a folding blade knife. The suspect suffered minor injuries to his hand. He was taken to the hospital for treatment. Upon being released from the hospital, the suspect was transported to the MNPD Headquarters.
Investigators said they are currently working to determine a motive.
The school was placed on lockdown while emergency crews responded. Additional security will be at Overton Friday and counselors will be available to provide emotional support for students and staff.
