The Air Force’s F-15EX Gets A New Name: F-15EX Eagle IIhttps://www.19fortyfive.com/2021/04/the-air-forces-f-15ex-gets-a-new-name-f-15ex-eagle-ii/The Air Force recently took delivery of the Boeing F-15EX, the newest variant of the F-15E Strike Eagle, taking the jet on March 10.
Now, it has an official name.
The plane will be known as the F-15EX Eagle II, the Air Force announced Wednesday at a ceremony at Eglin Air Force Base. The Air National Guard will receive the jet first, and the Air Force will buy as many as 144 F-15EXs over the course of the next 10 or 12 years, as older F-15C/D jets age out.
It's interesting that the new Eagle IIs will be going first to Air National Guard units. USAF practice used to be to send retired obsolescent models to the ANG. While the Eagle IIs are variants of a veteran fighter, they are new and much upgraded from the original A/B and the C/D variants.
