Northern California cafe offers controversial 50% discount for those willing to toss their masks

A social media video is attracting attention over a Northern California cafe’s controversial promotion that encourages customers to throw away their masks.

In mid-March, Fiddleheads Cafe in Mendocino prominently posted a sign in the window of its cafe reading, "Throw your mask(s) in our trash bin and receive 50% off your order."

Mask-Karens be pissed. I'm guessing the restaurant is named for the fiddlehead fern. It's something like a 4 hour drive from the South Bay, but the views on SR 1 between Jenner and Mendocino are amazing!

I'm guessing the restaurant is named for the fiddlehead fern.

All ferns, when they are sprouting, go through a fiddlehead stage, when they are just starting to unfurl.

And if you have never fried up a batch of fiddleheads over a campfire, you just ain't lived. If you are lucky, you'll find young wild onions nearby too. Man, that's good eats. Closest I could come is probably an asparagus taste with a cucumber kinda thing going on out back.

I'm weird, I don't like cukes or asparagus. My Dad had a couple hundred acres of the latter ... God does have a sense of humor, :silly: .

Well try em if you can. I have never found a soul who didn't love fiddleheads. Such a narrow season. They're probably coming on here in two or three weeks. Right now we still have a foot or two of snow to get rid of (up in the sticks).

But we hit the big 6-0 yesterday for the first time this year, so if that holds we'll be getting green pretty quick.

I love both. We eat a lot of asparagus; full of nutrients and I've read it even unclogs arteries.  Cucumbers are just plain wonderful. Juicy and filling; perfect on salads.

I'm about to try to plant a vegetable garden again and hopefully I'll have cucumbers that actually make it this year without getting eaten by creatures!
GOD Bless America, have mercy upon this country and stop the evil that has a stranglehold on our Republic from prevailing.

Looking at a map, https://www.google.com/maps/place/Fiddleheads+Caf%C3%A9/@39.3058121,-123.8009506,16.75z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x80804d34fc4f7539:0x7c23df564d9caca8!8m2!3d39.3057721!4d-123.7985158, the café is about two blocks from the mouth of a river and Mendocino Bay. The views must be pretty gorgeous. It's also 2 or 3 blocks from the B & B that was used as Jessica Fletcher's House in "Murder, She Wrote".

I need to see if the locals still do that 5K and 10K run.

NO, @bigheadfred she is an Alligator Whisperer.  She trains them, then sells them to the Seminoles to wrestle in the swamp as a tourist thing.  Incidentally she reminded me one night that the ones that were to stubborn to train (usually males), she BBQ'D and sold from her Food Truck on some obscure State Hwy in Florida you've never heard of.
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

Nothing yet about whether that running event will be done in 2021, http://www.mendocinocoastpal.org/event/run/ . I forgot they included half and full marathon distances. There are also running events in other Mendocino County coastal towns, Fort Bragg and Gualala, and one near Jenner, which is along SR 1 in Sonoma County.

Stayed at the Little River Inn once about thirty years ago, unfortunately it rained all weekend, but views of the coast in that area are without equal.

Given Noisome's shutdown, I wonder how many hospitality-dependent businesses in towns like Mendocino and Fort Bragg will weather the Noisome Storm.

A bit south of Mendocino, Gualala, Anchor Bay, and Point Arena are pretty amazing.
