Highly contagious COVID-19 variant has now spread to all 50 US states, alarming experts about new wave

People should continue following public health protocols, experts say.

Story at a glance:

This contagious version was in the U.S and U.K. as early as October.
Some 15,000 cases of the B.1.1.7 variant have been reported in the U.S.
From the U.K., the new variant quickly spread into at least 15 countries from tourists.

The highly contagious variant of COVID-19 first found in the U.K. has now been identified in every U.S. state and has been spreading in the U.S. since October. More than 15,000 cases of the B.1.1.7 variant have been reported in the U.S. The variant may be more deadly than the original strain of COVID-19, experts warn.

In the United Kingdom, scientists discovered the B.1.1.7 variant in early December.

“By the time we learned about the U.K. variant in December, it was already silently spreading across the globe,” Lauren Ancel Meyers, the director of the COVID-19 Modeling Consortium at The University of Texas at Austin and a professor of integrative biology, said. “We estimate that the B117 variant probably arrived in the U.S. by October of 2020, two months before we knew it existed.”

Scientists recently analyzed data from 15 countries to estimate the likelihood of visitors from the U.K. spreading the variant. The result was that the virus indeed was reported in all 15 countries by mid-November.

“This study highlights the importance of laboratory surveillance,” Meyers said. “Rapid and extensive sequencing of virus samples is critical for early detection and tracking of new variants of concern.”

Porcine excrement Panic Porn! In the real-world version of the US, a few states are experiencing surges, but are counter-balanced by states who are still experiencing plummets are have been flat for weeks. So on average the US is not experiencing the surge for which the Purveyors of Panic Porn are hoping.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

I'm in Connecticut. In my town, over the last few weeks, the number of newly-reported infections goes like this (total for last 7 days of each date shown):
2/19      135
2/26      169
3/5        161
3/12      147
3/19      176
3/26      249
4/2        271

How does this "trend" hit ya...?

I think by now it is obvious that there will be continued vairants of COVID, just like there are continued strains of the flu. We don't lockdown, wear masks, or ramrod through a vaccine for the flu, nor should we for COVID.

Yes, the virus is real but  I think it's way pass time that everyone comes out of hiding and ventures out and get back to some normalcy.  I still think much of the news that surrounds COVID is a lot of leftist hype to control the masses.

If the virus had been allowed to run its course, we would have had herd immunity by now and this variant would have never emerged.

@libertybele,

Most people in Wales are vaccinated, they have very few cases now of the UK virus.
There are fewer cases of the UK virus across the UK.  They are worried about the South African virus.  It is in France and cases are going up.  The UK govn. is watching this variant and will shut down the UK if/when the South African one  becomes a problem in the UK.

Sorry not worried about the UK, Germany, et al. I am extremely worried about the mental defective in the White House bringing in hundreds if not thousands of infected illegals to America.

Has anyone in the UK who has recovered from the virus been subsequently hospitalized with re-infection?  I asked you this several weeks back.

Not very common but it does happen.  More info here:

What we know about covid-19 reinfection so far

19 January 2021

...Of 11 000 healthcare workers who had proved evidence of infection during the first wave of the pandemic in the UK between March and April 2020, none had symptomatic reinfection in the second wave of the virus between October and November 2020. As a result, the researchers felt confident that immunity to reinfection lasts at least six months in the case of the novel coronavirus, with further studies required to understand much more.

An early study by Public Health England, indicated that antibodies provide 83% protection against covid-19 reinfections over a five month period. Out of 6614 participants, 44 had “possible” or “probable” reinfections....

...To date, most of the SARS-CoV-2 reinfections that have been reported have been milder than first encounters with the virus, although some have been more harmful—and two people have died as a result.

“Almost certainly, immunity from a mild infection doesn’t last as long,” said Hunter. “But on balance, most second infections are going to be a lot less severe because of a degree of immune memory and T cell mediation.”...

So the answer is zero.  Thanks.

I’ve now personally spoke to four people who have known and worked with Fauci, and to a person they told me he’s a rude nasty egotist who is typically wrong, and is a substandard research doc, but kisses political ass to keep his job.

It has a name. It's called Napoleonic complex.

Which is quite silly since Napoleon was actually of average height for the time. I believe what Fauci suffers from is plain and simple egomania with an ample helping of sadism.
