Fauci warns of yet another COVID surge, appeals to Trump to urge followers to get vaccinated

Dr. Anthony Fauci is once again warning of a potential surge in COVID-19 cases as more states end their pandemic restrictions, as he pressed former President Donald Trump to encourage his supporters to get vaccinated.

In an interview with Chris Wallace on “Fox News Sunday,” Fauci pointed to new surges in cases across the European Union, which he said was an indication of where the United States is headed.

Europe “always seem to be a few weeks ahead of us,” he said, adding that now is “absolutely no time to declare victory.”

“They thought they were home free, and they weren’t, and now they are seeing cases going up,” Fauci noted further.

Earlier this month states, led by Texas and Mississippi, began to reopen after roughly a year of having imposed some level of coronavirus restrictions. Fauci immediately advised them not to relax measures such as wearing masks, social distancing, and keeping crowds to a minimum in businesses and in public.

That Americans still are stuck on the 6-foot standard and still had the same uptick in cases as Europe did should tell how useful that is.

1 meter is close enough to shake hands. Going to that standard would solve the vast majority of social anxiety issues we are having because of these restrictions.

Easter is just around the corner and last Easter my daughter was terrified of getting us sick and wouldn't even come near us once the shutdown was announced. I cooked Easter dinner and handed her dinner with gloves on and a face mask through our screened door and we gave each other virtual hugs.  At the time they were even checking cars to see why people were driving around and we were afraid she was going to get pulled over. I will NEVER forget how sad and depressing it was not being able to truly hold her and hug her last year and celebrate Easter with her.

I'll will be damned if Fauci, the WHO, the CDC are any other 'authority' is going to keep me from my family this Easter.  Easter is my favorite holiday and this year I plan on celebrating as we always have!!  This Easter will be more special because we all now realize the b.s. that we've been handed by the supposed COVID experts and we will enjoy it just like we always do.  We also celebrated Thanksgiving and Christmas --and we all survived it just fine in spite of all the freakin' COVID warnings and social distancing crappola.

Trump's leadership was instrumental in getting the US to where it is with regard to vaccines approvals and distribution. If that didn't persuade Trump's supporters while that was happening then I doubt anything Trump could say now would persuade those who have chosen not to be vaccinated to choose differently.

Fauci's just demonstrating his elitist arrogance in expressing his assumption that Trump's supporters are ignorant .

There’s no hard evidence of which I’m aware that Trump’s full-throated support for getting vaccinated will move the needle meaningfully among Republicans. There’s some evidence to the contrary, in fact. But it’s natural to want him to join the PR effort given the singular influence he wields over the American right. It’s not that Trump saying “get your shot!” will flip a switch in anyone’s brain from anti-vax to pro-vax, it’s more that it might help knock down one of the various pillars holding up a given person’s resistance to the shot. If you worry that the vaccine’s development was rushed and you’re nervous about as yet unknown side effects and you don’t trust Biden’s team of Democrats to tell you the truth, having Trump vouch for the vaccines because they came to market on his watch might help soften you up on the last point. And if doctors can soften you up on the other two, suddenly you’ve gone from anti-vax to vax-curious, at least.
