Report: Mitch McConnell's Wife Used Her Government Position To Boost Family's Chinese Shipping Business

Elaine Chao is the wife of disgraced Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY). McConnell famously strongarmed Chao’s way into the Transportation Secretary position under the Trump administration even though her family provided a clear conflict of interest. Her father runs one of the CCP’s largest shipping companies, and she held a considerable stake in Vulcan Materials, a company that produces stone and asphalt.

Mrs. Chao came under investigation by the U.S. Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General after Rep. DeFazio, along with multiple news reports inquiring about a possible conflict of interest. The report states that concerns were raised about “Secretary Chao’s meeting with local officials from Kentucky and the role of former Chief of Staff Todd Inman with respect to Federal grants benefiting Kentucky.”

There were also concerns “regarding Secretary Chao’s actions relating to her family’s shipping business as well as her financial holdings in Vulcan Materials.” The letter stated that prior to receiving the inquest by Rep. DeFazio into the matter, the U.S.DOT Inspector General’s office “had opened a preliminary review covering similar matters related to Secretary Chao.”

I'm sure we are going to hear from posters that think this is all just "crazy conspiracy theories", but when Pubs enrich themselves by using political positions they hold it is just as bad as when Rats do it. I suspect this is a large part of why establishment Pubs want to get rid of the outsider upstarts. They want to go back to the insider deals just like the Rats.

Do some homework, numerous articles have been written about McConnell.

In fact, in a previous thread you were given links detailing his corruption and for whatever reason you choose not to read them.

This is not entirely true @PeteS in CA   Through the years Chao has been the subject of quite a few ethics investigations .... she waved them all off with the help of the Republican administration she worked for at the time --- and her husband.

In short, none of the investigations went anywhere, so your claim that no evidence has been produced is bogus.  Let's have a full investigation of this one.  It's long overdue.

The investigators also found that Chao repeatedly asked agency staff members to help “do chores for her father, including editing her father’s Wikipedia page, promoting his Chinese-language biography,” and directing two staff members from the transportation secretary’s office to send a copy of her father’s book “to a well-known CEO of a major U.S. corporation” to ask if he would write a foreword for the book.

Apparently, staff members for Elaine Chao’s office were assigned in 2017 to check with the Department of Homeland Security on “the status of a work permit application for a foreign student studying in the U.S. who had received a scholarship from a Chao family foundation,” the report said.

The student, according to the report, had interviewed Elaine Chao’s father, James Chao, at the New York headquarters of the family’s shipping company in order to share James Chao’s experience “with Chinese millennials.”

So there were some inappropriate actions. But mole hills are being mountainized.
