(WXYZ) — There's a disturbing problem facing Michigan National Guard troops guarding the U.S. Capitol – their food.

A whistleblower said nearly 75 meals were thrown out Sunday after metal shavings were found, other meals showed up undercooked making soldiers sick.

A staff sergeant with the Michigan National Guard, whose identity is being protected, says the problem is not isolated.

“Yesterday, for instance, there were 74 different meals found with raw beef in them,” the sergeant said. "Just yesterday, the lunches were, soldiers had found metal shavings in their food.”

The food concerns going beyond quality – quantity is an issue as well. Breakfast is an example.

“You were getting maybe a Danish and some sort of juice," the sergeant said. "And then we had certain days where it was clearly a dinner role and Sunny D.”

If you want to make it so that someone cannot do something physical, it’s not all that hard. All you have to do is find a way to make it so the mere idea of moving is against all logic to them.

Well, how do you do that? Simple, get them sick. Make them so that every move makes them want to vomit.

That being said, people in the military deserve the best food possible. What they don’t need are people trying to poison them.

The Democratic powers that be in Washington D.C. contracted out for food to feed the Michigan National Guard.  Most meals leave the Guard malnourished.

About 50 of the 26,000 National Guard troops deployed to the U.S. Capitol have been treated for gastrointestinal complaints since the start of their mission two months ago, Guard officials told Army Times on Wednesday.

It’s not clear how many of those cases are linked to the catered meals troops are provided during their deployment to Washington. However, the cases were acknowledged after Michigan Guardsmen at the Capitol complained to their home state news outlets about the under-cooked meat and contaminated food they were allegedly served.

The governor of Michigan said Tuesday that the quality of the food has improved since her office was first made aware of the issue days ago, but noted her disappointment that it arose in the first place.

At least 50 members of the National Guard have been sickened with gastrointestinal issues after complaints that service members were served bad food while guarding the U.S. Capitol in Washington, officials said.

Michigan lawmakers are calling on the military to fire the contractor involved — identified in federal records as Sardi’s Catering in College Park, Maryland.

Sardi’s was awarded an $11.4 million contract by the District of Columbia National Guard on Jan. 25 to provide meals to troops activated to help with security following the Jan. 6 Capitol attack. Calls to Sardi’s and the owner of the business Wednesday were not immediately returned.

A guard spokesman said Wednesday that none of those sickened have been hospitalized due to illness from the food since the Capitol security mission began Jan. 6; however, some have been treated at hospitals.

“Out of the 26,000 who were deployed and the 5,200 who remain, approximately 50 have been treated for gastrointestinal complaints,” said Lt. Col. Robert Carver, a spokesman for the Joint Task Force that commands the Capitol security mission.

Knowing Nancy, the person who forced these members to sleep on the floor of unheated parking garages, those sickened may have had to fend for themselves by scavenging from dumpsters for their food.

It is what elitists do, like having armed guards around them while stripping guns away from everyone else.

Food poisoning is related to poor preparation, and the metal shavings indicates food adulteration.

If a restaurant did this, food poisoning would draw a fine from a Health Department, and the metal shavings would constitute negligence at least, assault at worst.  Like when somebody blows his nose on a cop's hamburger bun.

This was the government response yesterday.  Today they seem a bit more contrite.

IMO, that contractor should lose whatever permits they have until they put a food safety program in place, including all supervisory and production line manglers satisfactorily completing ServSafe or an equivalent food safety training program and appropriate equipment operation and maintenance training (the probable source of the metal shavings).

Or maybe the National Guard in DC should just contract with CfA, since they have expertise in safely producing safe food!

The National Guard said Monday the head of the U.S. Army has ordered a preliminary inquiry into claims that bad food was served to troops providing security at the U.S. Capitol.

Acting Secretary of the Army John E. Whitley on March 3 directed Maj. Gen. William Walker, commander of the District of Columbia National Guard, to conduct the preliminary inquiry concerning “allegations of the inadequate provision of food” for the service members, according to a spokesman for the Joint Task Force at the Capitol.

“We will not discuss the details of the ongoing inquiry,” said the spokesman, Lt. Col. Robert Carver.

The purposes of a preliminary inquiry under Army regulations could include ascertaining the scope of the problem, identifying and interviewing witnesses, and determining whether a more extensive investigation is warranted, Carver said.
