The manuscript by the author Theodor Geisel is reported to have been written in the 1950s or 1960s and stashed away in his office until his widow found it in 2013.
 

A national educators organization is telling schools to avoid reading Dr. Seuss because the children’s books allegedly have “racial undertones.”

For more than 20 years, March 2 has been recognized as Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday. The reading recognition day was founded by the National Education Association — the nation’s largest labor union — in 1998. This year’s theme is “Create and Celebrate Diversity.”

Learning for Justice — a left-wing educators group — is demanding that Dr. Seuss be canceled. A prominent Virginia school district has taken marching orders and ordered its schools to avoid “connecting Read Across America Day with Dr. Seuss.”

When I re-read The Cat In The Hat with my daughters, I discovered that Seuss was telling kids to let total strangers into their house, against their parents' orders, and to ignore the wisdom of others, such as the gold fish, who was the only one in the story that had any sense.

When I re-read Green Eggs and Ham, I realized that Seuss was promoting drug use and endorsing the high-pressure tactics drug dealers use to hook children on heroin and tobacco.

At least Horton Hears a Who had a positive message...

Six popular Dr. Seuss books — including And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street and If I Ran the Zoo — “will stop being published because of racist and insensitive imagery, the business that preserves and protects the author’s legacy said Tuesday,” The Associated Press reported.

“These books portray people in ways that are hurtful and wrong,” Dr. Seuss Enterprises told The Associated Press in a statement marking the late author and illustrator’s birthday.

“Ceasing sales of these books is only part of our commitment and our broader plan to ensure Dr. Seuss Enterprises’ catalog represents and supports all communities and families,” Dr. Seuss Enterprises said. The Associated Press reported that the “racist and insensitive” depictions played a part in their removal.

The other books affected are McElligot’s Pool, On Beyond Zebra!, Scrambled Eggs Super!, and The Cat’s Quizzer.

The move to drop the six titles comes just 24-hours after a Virginia school system removed children’s books by Dr. Seuss from its annual Read Across America program over charges they have “strong racial undertones,” as Breitbart News reported.
