Governor Newsom says the state will set aside 10 percent of its weekly vaccine allotment from the federal government to inoculate teachers, daycare workers, and other school employees. It’s a smashing victory for the teachers’ unions that have demanded they be vaccinated ahead of old people before they will agree to return to class.

It all comes down to whether you think teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, and janitors are “essential employees” and deserve to cut in the vaccine line ahead of seniors and other vulnerable groups that have a far higher chance of becoming seriously ill or dying than teachers if they contract the disease.

“It must be done, and it must be done much sooner than the current path we are on. And we believe this will advance that cause,” Newsom said Friday.

  Noisome actually believes the teacher's union won't come up with another pretext to keep schools shut down for the rest of the school year and maybe even into the next?!

The safest place in society during this pandemic would've been in a room full of children.

On the other hand I don't know whether the kids are better or worse off being kept out of the classroom, given the quality of education most CA teachers now deliver.

IMO, Goobernor Noisome should back off on the control-freak split-haired categories and throw the priorities more or less wide open. At this point if a vaccination site has unused doses at the end of the day, I don't know if they are allowed to use the doses with random walk-ins instead of throwing away those unused doses. If they are allowed it was a recent change, since a major Santa Clara County hospital was penalized, in January IIRC, for having done so. IOW, get the state bureaucrats out of the grills of the people doing the work of vaccinating.
