‘Oh My God’: CNN’s Camerota reacts to ‘devastating’ report of Chinese torture of female prisoners

CNN’s Alisyn Camerota expressed shock on her show “New Day” Friday when she heard a report concerning the systematic and brutal gang-raping and torture of women prisoners in internment camps in the Xinjiang province of China.

The segment was with correspondent Ivan Watson and Camerota began the report with some background: “This morning, shocking allegations of gang-rape in detention camps in China. The U.S. government accuses China of the mass internment of up to 2 million members of mostly Muslim ethnic minority groups in recent years,” Camerota stated.

“Part of a policy that the U.S. State Department says amounts to genocide. Beijing denies this, claiming the camps are vocational training centers aimed at creating jobs and stamping out Islamist extremism,” Camerota added.

The Biden administration seems to be on friendly terms with China regardless of human rights violations. The president has referred to China’s actions against the Uighur population by utilizing internment camps as “different norms.”

WHY is anyone surprised about this. China has been doing this,and worse,ever since there has been a China.

If one looks at a map of China showing provinces one can notice that around the periphery of just about all but the coast are various ethnic-group "autonomous regions". Inside that periphery is the historic core of China, and those "autonomous regions" are ethnic groups with which dynastic China was variously, controlling, raided by, and even ruled by (the Mongols ruled China for a century or two, and the Qing dynasty - China's last dynasty - was Manchu, not Han Chinese). In modern China, in ethnic-group "autonomous regions" those ethnic groups are, in varying degrees, oppressed, and the long-term policy is Sinicization, extincting those ethnic group's languages and cultures.

Of the several "autonomous regions" the two that, over the centuries, were least often under Chinese rule are Tibet and Xinjiang. Guess which "autonomous regions'" ethnic groups are most oppressed.

The CNN reaction is typical. Leftists live in an  insular world where US imperialism, racism, white supremacy and Eurocentrism are the only bad things. And they are truly shocked when reality seeps into that insular world.I'm sure this woman was sincerely horrified at this because the only evil she is aware of is the above.

I recall Jimmy Carter's stunned reaction when Russia invaded Afghanistan in 1979. He said he's "learned more about" Russia in  the previous week than in his entire political career. Where was he? Didn't the fool know what the Communist Soviet Union was about? Evidently not.
