Field of Flags goes up at National Mall - one for each of the 200,000 Americans who can't attend the inauguration

    Approximately 191,500 flags have been placed at the National Mall in honor of Americans who cannot attend the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on Wednesday
    The 'Field of Flags' display is also comprised of 56 pillars of light that represent states and territories
    Biden is sworn in Wednesday but will not have traditional White House reception on morning of inauguration
    On Tuesday, Biden will have memorial service for the nearly 400,000 victims of the COVID-19 pandemic 
    The Lincoln Memorial service at 5.30pm will ask Americans to light a candle in memory of those who died

Thousands of US flags have been placed at the National Mall in honor of the nearly 200,000 Americans who cannot be present for the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The display, which is called the 'Field of Flags,' is comprised of 191,500 US flags and 56 pillars of light.

Images taken on Monday showed the flags carefully placed in rows near the US Capitol, months after a similar flag display honored the victims who died from coronavirus near the Washington Monument.

The flags are representative of the Americans who cannot travel to Washington, DC, to attend the inauguration in person due to the pandemic, which has infected more than 23.9 million Americans and taken the lives of nearly 400,000.

According to the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC), the pillars of light represent the 50 states and US territories and will illuminate the National Mall during the National Mall Lighting on Monday at 6.30pm.

The lighting will take about 46 seconds to commemorate Biden as America's 46th president.

Well, there are 25 states (all large enough they don't need their names off to the side with an arrow pointing to them) that definitely did not vote for him. There are others which are questionable.

So how about saving some energy and reducing the pillars of light accordingly.

One of most bizarre ideas for this fake Inauguration yet.  The flags represent the people who "would have attended" but are prohibited because of the military occupation?

It's just something to make the Mall not look so empty, like a typical Biteme "rally" back in October.
