Republican strategist Karl Rove suggested on Sunday that President Trump is at higher risk of the Senate voting to convict the president in his second impeachment trial if Trump's personal attorney, Rudy Giuliani, spearheads his defense.

Rove said during a “Fox News Sunday” appearance that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) statements on the trial, in which he did not instruct Senate Republicans to vote against conviction, are “a sign that every Republican senator needs to take this seriously.”

“I think it’s all going to boil down to what the president’s defense is,” Rove added.

“Rudy Giuliani charted a very bad course in the morning papers,” Rove said, pointing to comments by Giuliani suggesting the president could not have incited the deadly riots at the Capitol earlier this month because his unproven claims of election theft were true. The House last week impeached Trump over his role in the rioting, making him the only president to be impeached twice.

The election fraud argument, Rove noted on Sunday, “has been rejected by over 50 courts” including a mix of judges appointed by former presidents Obama and Bush as well as some Trump appointees.

A Giuliani defense, he added, "raises the likelihood of more than 17 Republicans voting for conviction.”

While the process may be legitimate, the motivation and underlying excuse is a blatant lie (another one) and a supreme (pardon pun) injustice.   We have no more "rule of law" in America.   If you are white, Conservative and (gasp) Christian.... you are already a persona non grata in this New World Disorder.   And God help you if they find out that you dared to support or vote for Trump!

Sloe Joe's inauguration is set for around 1:00 on the 20th .... so it's possible but unlikely a trial will be held beforehand and then there are arguments that he can be tried after he leaves office. Rumor has it that Nancy hasn't even sent over the articles of impeachment yet.  Was the impeachment purely symbolic and historic because he's the only President impeached twice or are the DEMS going to go further and hold a trial after he leaves office when they hold the majority; making rules as they go along? Who the heck really knows these days?

Caught a glimpse of the evening news while doing dinner dishes; Giuliani saying that he was willing to defend Trump.

I would hope by now Trump would realize that Giuliani isn't capable of defending him as needed.  Secondly, he accomplished absolutely nothing positive for Trump since he's been his attorney.

Hopefully Trump has someone better lined up to defend him.  Otherwise he's going to lose BIGLY.  He's probably going to lose regardless, but I agree his chances of losing are pretty much guaranteed with Giuliani defending him.
