Electric car batteries with five-minute charging times produced
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2021/jan/19/electric-car-batteries-race-ahead-with-five-minute-charging-times
19 Jan 2021

Batteries capable of fully charging in five minutes have been produced in a factory for the first time, marking a significant step towards electric cars becoming as fast to charge as filling up petrol or diesel vehicles.

Electric vehicles are a vital part of action to tackle the climate crisis but running out of charge during a journey is a worry for drivers. The new lithium-ion batteries were developed by the Israeli company StoreDot and manufactured by Eve Energy in China on standard production lines.

StoreDot has already demonstrated its “extreme fast-charging” battery in phones, drones and scooters and the 1,000 batteries it has now produced are to showcase its technology to carmakers and other companies. Daimler, BP, Samsung and TDK have all invested in StoreDot, which has raised $130m to date and was named a Bloomberg New Energy Finance Pioneer in 2020.

The batteries can be fully charged in five minutes but this would require much higher-powered chargers than used today. Using available charging infrastructure, StoreDot is aiming to deliver 100 miles of charge to a car battery in five minutes in 2025....

Technology highlights
Nano Materials: High electrochemical energy nano-particles
as active material are important for high electrochemical activity and are designed to increase conductivity. nano-particles enable ultra-fast charging and higher storage density.

Organic Binders: Proprietary anode binder used to adhere particles of active materials and conductive additives; optimized to have low impedance to current flow.

Organic Electrode Additives: Proprietary organic compound additives in the electrodes reduce mechanical strain and prevent undesired side reactions between the electrode and electrolyte.

Organic Electrolyte Additives: Tailored electrolyte additives provide metalloid anodes increased surface and bulk stabilities, improving long-term cycling and calendar life.

Formation process: enables stable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) for preventing irreversible consumption of electrolyte and lithium ions.

That's nice to hear. Maybe it's because my degrees are in electrical engineering, but I love electric cars. Looking forward to the day they are practical and affordable for everyone.

Can you imagine how much energy is forced into that battery in 300 seconds?  Wouldn't want to be standing within 50 yards of that.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

They mention a 100 mile charge in 5 minutes. By my calculations, using my Tesla Model 3 as a model, that's about 90,000,000 joules. And you would need to charge at about 300 kW (more if you factor in losses).

Calculation:
Model 3 has a 75 kWh battery, and gives a bit more than 300 miles of range. In the article they mention 100 mile charge in 5 minutes. Since a joule is a watt-second, a 75 kWh battery should hold 270,000,000 joules. Taking a third of that (100 miles / 300 miles), that's about 90,000,000 joules.
