Well, I just returned the book I was reading "The Water Dancer" to the library.  I read half of it.  I gave up.  It was historical fiction which I love. The character was a slave born to a rich slaveowner, the plot was good, it kept my interest and then a couple of times, the story went off topic to where the main character (slave) had some kind of powers to see events of the past and future. It was hard to discern at time whether these visions were part of the current plot or just some vision that really didn't tie into the story.

I am  now beginning to read "Ship of Brides" by Jojo Moyes.  This will be my second book by this author.

After reading four Bill O'Reilly books in quick succession, I'm in a bit of a lull (also a little burned out on history). I'm not sure whether the local library is open ('rona, dontchaknow) but if not, I can still go to the website and request a book, which they will deliver at the curb.

All the talk upthread... in the extended power outtage we just went through, I read half of Lando by Louis L'Amour - Fittingly by the light from lanterns and headlamps.

I just got my first book by Louis L'Amour, which is actually four novels in one.  Started Hondo.  I like to read chronologically.

As I read the book, not really remembering the plot, but knowing John Wayne played the role of Hondo in the movie, it appears Wayne was perfect for the role.  I can see John Wayne with every move he makes in the book.  It's as if the book was written just for John Wayne to star in the movie.  Interesting.

Same here, although I dumped my Twitter account. I hope to be able to read his posts on Parler if they are able to recover.

Book six of will Wight's Cradle series. Gonna try for that 100 books this year. He is a change of pace for me. 8 books in this series. I've been reading and staying away from the MSM.

I hadn't heard of Will Wight before, but the series sounds interesting.

I'm doing the same w.r.t. MSM, and also social media (other than here). It's actually quite nice.

I haven't, either. Don't really care to. I read books for entertainment.

Good plan!

I'm thinking (or maybe just hoping?) the 9th book might be out by late summer or thereabouts.  Wight has been a very prolific writer.  And as a bonus, he generally makes the Kindle versions of his previous books in the series available for free when he does a new release.

I'd love to hear your impressions once you do. I haven't read anything of his other than Cradle yet, but I have the Elder Empire books in my queue.

I’ve been learning French on the Duolingo app for a little over a year. It’s been kinda slow and steady, the old gray cells aren’t what they use to be.

So I’m now trying to read some beginning children’s books in francais. Tres difficle

It’s a very good thing to do during quarantine. Keeps you busy. And when I get a lesson right, a cute animated owl shows up.

To be honest,  I was hoping to go to Paris this year, but now, before 2030 will be nice. COVID should be under control by then, I hope.

I always liked Bill O'Reilly, but his books are suspect.  He pushes the nonsense that Oswald was the only assassin.  Even the government with a second commission in I believe 1978 admitted there were at least two shooters.

I have a friend that is a professional writer.  Her and her husband met attending the semi-annual conference of the Kennedy assassination.  She has literally every book in print on the assassination.

BTW, to plug her book, Forward to Camelot, by Susan Sloate, a time travel fantasy tied to the Kennedy assassination.  I honestly could not put the book down.  LITERALLY!  I loved her book.  I told her she should rewrite the first 30 pages or so, but once beyond that, I promise you, this is a real page turner.

Like I said somewhere, they're a good introduction to history. They probably shouldn't be considered the final authority. I do appreciate the way they introduce the characters, though. It was nice to learn more about Gen. Patton, for example, because my great-great-grandfather served under Patton's grandfather in the Civil War.

Just picked this up.  Not sure when I will get to it, tho.

The premise sounds like a poem.

Do not go gentle into that good night by Dylan Thomas

Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
She asked me name my foe then. I said the need within some men to fight and kill their brothers without thought of Love or God. Ken Hensley

Finished Hondo by Louis L'Amour.  Simple story, interesting, and a fast read.  On to the next book.

@jafo2010

His stories are about people. They don't need to be complex.

I wish I could still read. Thanks to chemo brain,I am now stuck with watching videos and movies on my ROKU. I sometimes try to read, but by the time I get to the second page I have already forgotten what happened on the first page.

On a positive note,I am saving a lot of money on books.
