U.S. Solar Power Plant Backed by Over $700 Million in Government Loans Goes Bust: Filing

https://www.usnews.com/news/us/articles/2020-07-30/us-solar-power-plant-backed-by-over-700-mln-in-govt-loans-goes-bust-filing

Quote
(Reuters) - The owner of a big Nevada solar-thermal power plant that received $737 million in loans from the U.S. Department of Energy filed for bankruptcy on Thursday, according to a court filing, potentially leaving U.S. taxpayers with a whopping bill.

The project's failure is a blow to the DOE renewable energy loan program, which had already been criticized by Republicans as a waste of money after it backed failed solar panel maker Solyndra during the Obama administration.

Tonopah Solar Energy LLC still owes $425 million on its DOE loan, but reached a settlement under which the department will recover at least $200 million, it said in court documents filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware.

Another OhBummerdoggle bites the taxpayers! From what I saw in a TWSJ article (paywall!) the bite is probably double the >$200M Reuters mentioned.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

The plant over its lifetime has generated just under 419 GW-h of electricity which brought in $56.5 million in revenue for an original investment of over $1 billion.  Our government proves itself quite adept at picking losers.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

No punishment, in my opinion, is too great, for the man who can build his greatness upon his country's ruin~  George Washington

But..but..it's SOLAR, free energy from the sun how could it lose money! What they needed was a economics genius like AOC to show them how to operate at a profit. AOC would have made sure that the grid was required to purchase whatever was produced no matter the demand at a price point of at least 500% of market.

  • That is the problem with everything. They try and make it better without realizing the old is fine.

This is what happens when you put academia in charge of real world entities.  Stanford physics professor Steven Chu left the blinders of his ivory tower enclave to run the Department of Energy.  And run it in the ground he did.  With zero executive experience and zero economic or business training, Chu handed out billions in subsidies to every new business startup willing to embrace any new energy idea with zero concern for economic viability.  He was still running lab experiments, but on a much grander scale.  Instead of persuading corporations to invest in his experiments, he now had the virtually unlimited budget of the US taxpayer to put all those ideas to task.

As expected, the results were an abysmal failure on a scale never seen before.  Company after company after company went into bankruptcy taking taxpayer dollars with them.  And companies who had already been applying these ideas for decades, but on a much smaller economy of scale saw their revenues disappear due to their new subsidized competitors which eventually put them out of business.

And what was the driving force for all this waste?  Global warming.  A man who is a genius when it comes to physics basically gutted the DOE budget in order to pursue some idealistic fantasy based on zero scientific evidence.

After four years of abject failure, Chu resigned from DOE.  His lofty classroom pipe dreams exposed as complete economic failures under the experimental microscope of supply and demand.  Back to Stanford he went. But did he share his new-found knowledge with the next cadre of impressionable minds?  No.  Totally oblivious to his own failure, he continues to spout the same old leftist BS that failed so utterly when our tax dollars were on the line.

I expect to see billions if not trillions 'invested' into the pockets of democrat cronies under the cover of Gaia worshiping, look how well it's worked for the Germans who have the highest cost kWh in Europe. You just know the morons in charge here can't let the Germans out do us, we must be punished for being the evil bastards we are.

And guess what, after these #$#@'s walk away the US taxpayer will be tabbed with disposal.
I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.
