Los Angeles County has issued a new COVID-19 pandemic order that prohibits most gatherings and discourages most crowds, the latest in a series of desperate moves aimed at slowing an unprecedented surge of coronavirus infections.

How does it work?

It’s certainly not as severe as the stay-at-home order issued in March. But it does mean that most gatherings — apart from outdoor church services and outdoor political protests — were banned starting Monday morning, with the order set to last for the next three weeks, until Dec. 20. Still, it is the strictest currently in California, a sign of how serious conditions are in L.A. County.

Retail stores will remain open, albeit at a more limited capacity.

I don't think those running these matters,

know what has worked, or not.

It's not February or March anymore. Data about where spread happens is imperfect, but it's sufficient for bureaucrats and pols to stop with the blanket orders and be specific. For starters, banning outdoor almost anything is bogus. What is being done is driven by a mix of laziness and tyrannous power-grabbing.

The tyrants show with their actions how seriously they believe what they impose on normal people: Stuporvisor Sheila Kuhl dining out after voting to shut down outdoor dining; Gavin Noisome dining with more than 20 other guests indoors at French Laundry; SF Mayor London Breed dining with 7 other guests indoors at French Laundry the following day; San Jose Mayor Liccardo having a large Thanksgiving dinner in his home with family members of multiple households.

The Special Covid Hypocrisy Award, IMO, belongs to Hyper-Partisan Scumbag Goobernor Noisome who before the election proclaimed that California would not accept any vaccine approved under Trump until California something-or-others vetted the data, but now after the election is making plans for the first ~327K doses of the Pfizer vaccine CA will be receiving.

NEW: L.A. County Sheriff Alex Villanueva tells me his deputies will not take part in enforcing stay at home orders at businesses, which he says have been through enough. He says that's the health department's job, and LASD will focus on "super spreader" events instead. @FOXLA

Sheriff Villanueva also tells me he found out about the new stay at home orders from Governor Newsom's press conference, and there was no coordination with law enforcement beforehand, which he says is concerning when the Governor is expecting enforcement of his orders. @FOXLA

Sheriff’s departments from:
- LA County
- Orange County
- San Bernardino County
- Riverside County
Are all telling @GavinNewsom he can bleep right off with his bullshit.
And good on them.

Just to give an idea of the magnitude of those four contiguous counties, were they a US state they'd rank 40th in area, and if the effect on CA's population were ignored, the 5th most populous. Over 40% of California's population live in those four counties.

So these four counties' sheriffs flipping off Goobernor Noisome is a pretty big deal, depending on how many city PDs also join the flip-off.
