“Green Hydrogen” to replace “Black Gold”?
By Peter Murphy |November 9th, 2020|Energy|17 Comments

The harnessing of new energy sources has fueled technological advances and economic prosperity for mankind throughout history. The history of oil alone coincides with economic growth and improving living conditions for nearly two centuries.

History and human prosperity will not end with oil and other fossil fuels since energy development and innovation inexorably continues. In the not too distant future, it may be “green hydrogen” that will displace “black gold,” or at least make the world much less dependent on fossil fuels.

Hydrogen power comes from water by using electricity to split hydrogen molecules from oxygen molecules and stored in liquid form. “Green” hydrogen is so labeled based on the source of electricity coming from renewable energy, rather than from fossil fuels.

Hydrogen power could come from water by using electricity to split off hydrogen.  But it is much cheaper to reform natural gas.  Only when electricity becomes cheaper than natural gas will hydrogen become the panacea they want it to be.  Hydrogen is electricity.  And electricity is unable to compete with petroleum/gas in the current market.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

Battery Electric or Hydrogen fuel cell VW lays out why one is the winner

The automaker cited a study by management consultancy Horváth & Partners, which found that battery-electric cars have an efficiency of 70% to 80%. That means about three quarters of the electricity generated by the grid is actually applied to propulsion.

About 8% of a given amount of electricity is lost in transmission from the source to the car's battery pack, while 18% of what remains is lost between the battery pack and the drive wheels, according to the study.

In contrast, only about 25% to 35% of energy actually makes it to the wheels of a fuel-cell car, according to the study.

That's because of the immense amount of energy needed to produce hydrogen through electrolysis, the most common current method, according to the study. Only 55%of that energy is represented by usable hydrogen, the study said.

The process of converting hydrogen into electricity within a fuel cell is also inherently inefficient, according to the study. Of the remaining potential energy, an additional 55% is lost in that process, the study said.
