A new poll conducted after the beheading of a teacher in Paris has found that 79% of French people believe Islamism has “declared war” on their country.

The survey was carried out by polling firm Ifop following the jihadist murder of geography teacher Samuel Paty, who was targeted for showing pupils cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad during a lesson about freedom of expression.

The murder prompted numerous mass protest marches across the country in defense of free speech and against the Islamic takeover of France.

“87% of French people say they agree with the fact that secularism is now in danger in France, and 79% that Islamism has declared war on the nation and the Republic,” reports Ifop.

The poll also found that the political leader the French people have the most trust in when it comes to combating Islamism is Marine Le Pen.

When Charlie Hebdo was struck in 2015, France was defiant. When blood soaked the floors of the Bataclan later that year, France despaired. Now, after seeing a schoolteacher assassinated for simply doing his job, for doing what the Republic asked of him, France is furious.

For France, the time of hashtag solidarity and “Don’t Look Back in Anger” has passed. After years of terrible bloodshed on its streets, the usual lines and excuses are well worn out among French audiences. Now, France is clearly staking out its position: that the jihadist terror they’ve endured — more than any country in Europe — is a product of the growth of Islamist ideology inside its own borders, and the cultural chasm it creates.

In a speech to honour the slain schoolteacher, the French President himself could barely hold back his emotions, while in private he is said to be ready for a “fight to the death” with Islamists. His interior minister has denounced “Islamist barbarism” and said it’s time for Islamists to feel the fear and shock of France’s actions, not the other way around. The public, too, wants real action.

While most ire is directed firmly at the Islamist murderers and their apologists, a portion of French anger is reserved for la presse Anglo-Saxon. A growing number of people, both in and out of government, feel that their country is being madly misread and misrepresented in the Anglosphere.

Among what little discussion of Macron’s campaign against Islamism in France there has been, it’s not unusual to find accusations of pandering to the far-right, electioneering, attempting to reform Islam, and enforcing hard-line secularism, or even state atheism. Macron’s policies on such a complex and sensitive issue are of course open to criticism, but they are none of these things, nor are they a knee-jerk reaction — he’s been talking about this problem for years. ...

It is simply about death and murder for its own sake. Islam is a religion of death. The only way to show Allah that you are a 'good Muslim' is to murder someone/anyone, including yourself, to follow the path of Muhammed and to prove your 'faith'.

Many in the West are saying we should focus only on the extreme elements within Islam, but not the entire religion, ie. leave the religion alone.

When an old lady was beheaded in a church in Nice on 29 October while saying her prayers, and a sacristan and a third victim were murdered with a knife, the number of deaths from Islamic terrorism in France since 2012 rose to 270.

The best known of these victims are the 12 people killed in the attacks at the offices of the magazine Charlie Hebdo in January 2015; the company boss decapitated in June 2015; the 90 victims of the Bataclan theatre massacre of November 2015; the two police officials whose throats were slit in front of their young son in June 2016; the priest whose throat was slit while saying Mass in July 2016; the 86 holidaymakers mowed down by a truck on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice in August 2016; the policeman who exchanged himself for a hostage and had his throat slit in March 2018; the four police officers murdered inside the prefecture of police in Paris by one of their colleagues in October 2019; the schoolteacher decapitated on 16 October 2020; and now this second attack in Nice.
