World Series Game One---live thread
« on: October 21, 2020, 12:24:19 am »
Somehow, no matter what the pandemic threw down in baseball's way, we managed to arrive at the World Series. Somehow, the game's 99 Cent Store from Tampa Bay bumped, pole vaulted, and sky dove to a Series against the game's Amazon from Los Angeles.

In Globe Life Field, the brand-new playpen of the Texas Rangers. Where the turf is artificial, the roof makes it resemble the hangar for a Boeing 747, and you can just can all the hoo-ha about the wonders of a neutral-site World Series.

The Dodgers entered with a sort-of home field advantage. They've been playing at Globe Life from their National League division series forward. With the pandemic-inspired divisional geography schedule on the irregular season, the Rays never got to play the Rangers even once.

They've been been playing there from their division series forward. With the pandemic-inspired divisional geography schedule this irregular season, the Rays never got to play the Rangers even once.

The 2020 World Series is underway . . .

Top of the first

Clayton Kershaw pitching for the Dodgers.

RAYS---Yandy Diaz takes a fastball strike, curve ball misses high (slipped out of Kershaw's hand), fastball strike on the outside corner, pokes a slider to the opposite field for a leadoff base hit!

Brandon Lowe (hitting .115 in the postseason through now) ball one is a slider low, swung on and popped up---Justin Turner backpedaling from third to catch it.

Randy Arozarena takes a fastball for a strike, ball one (check swing), ball two slider hits the dirt, ball three slider also hits the dirt, ball four is another slider in the dirt. (Kershaw only walked eight on the irregular season.)

Hunter Renfroe takes a slider high, strike one fastball inside corner at the knees, strike two called is a curve ball landing in the middle of the zone, ball two slide bounces in, high slider fouled straight back, curve ball in the dirt and Renfroe couldn't check his swing says plate ump Laz Diaz, who refuses to appeal, though it looked as though he actually did check his swing, strike three, two outs.

Manuel Margot takes ball one fastball up and away, strike one fastball called on the inside corner but the pitch may have missed the zone, slow roller up the third base line, Kershaw bobbles the pickup but throws him out closely! No score, mid-first.
