Trump tells Congress to 'go big or go home' on coronavirus stimulus
By Morgan Chalfant - 10/13/20 12:05 PM EDT

President Trump urged Congress to “go big or go home” on another round of coronavirus stimulus, amid broad objections within his own party to his latest $1.8 trillion proposal.

“STIMULUS! Go big or go home!!!” Trump tweeted Tuesday morning.

In doing so, the president undermined a statement from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) less than an hour earlier that said the upper chamber would vote on a bill providing “targeted relief for American workers” that includes more funding for small business loans through the Paycheck Protection Program.

“When the full Senate returns on October 19th, our first order of business will be voting again on targeted relief for American workers, including new funding for the PPP,” McConnell said. “Unless Democrats block this aid for workers, we will have time to pass it before we proceed as planned to the pending Supreme Court nomination as soon as it is reported by the Judiciary Committee."

Senate Republicans offered swift objections to the Trump administration’s $1.8 trillion coronavirus relief proposal on a conference call over the weekend, after the president’s top aides took the offer to Democratic leaders in negotiations over a new round of stimulus. McConnell has made clear he objects to spending trillions of dollars to help buoy the economy and combat the coronavirus pandemic.

Absolute insanity!  Our debt is now larger than our economy. This is destroying the value of the dollar.  We are a great country and Trump has brought about jobs, jobs, jobs and yes many people lost their jobs because of COVID through no fault of their own, but we cannot continue to keep printing money.

Certainly this is an effort for votes, I get that, but I find it interesting that the Turtle is bucking Trump on this ... how is it going to look if the Senate votes against this stimulus?

The GOP loses the Senate and we as a country are royally screwed!  Besides didn't Trump at first say he was going to address this issue after the election??

Yes it is about votes. But the second largest faction of Conservative voters is fiscal conservatives... And I think ol Turtle got the message in internal Republican polling. I do not believe fiscal conservatives are  on the Tump twain... nor hardly on the Republican plantation. And they know it.

btw @libertybele , I personally called Sen Daines who I know, and whose office folks I know very well through enough calls to be on a first name basis, that he was not going to get my vote this time around specifically and only because of his voting for budgetary disaster. He damn well should have known better.

And I am not alone. He is having a tough pull against Bullock of all people - The Dem governor that shut the state down... Daines needs every vote, and I know I am not alone. If he makes it back in it will be a squeaker, and I am sure he knows why he is getting spanked.

Nope... Shaggy Manes and Chanterelles....  Funny you should say that as it is coming on the end of mushroom time right now.

Why do YOU suppose the Senate Republicans are not willing to get on board for another TWO FRIGGIN TRILLION DOLLARS?

The runaway spending and squandering of our resources is  a deep concern; though I highly doubt that the Biden Harris camp and the DEM politicians will be any less guilty.  They created a monster called COVID and have used it to destroy the accomplishments Trump made in boosting the economy and bringing down unemployment, etc.

Personally, I feel we need to go back to the gold standard but that's a discussion for a different day and time.

Certainly Biden Harris will lead us to become a Venezuela type entity ... runaway spending will eventually get us there as well.  I believe that with Trump we may have a glimmer of hope to recoup some of that debt.

I clearly understand your viewpoint that it doesn't matter which side is voted in; both will take us down that rabbit hole -- just one side will get us there much quicker.

There is no alternative as the candidate for the Constitution Party is worthless.  Biden isn't an option obviously.  Trump offers the best chance this Republic has of surviving .... but if the GOP loses the Senate it won't make a darn bit of difference.

In retrospect, I didn't vote for McCain and voted 3rd party which in reality gave us 8 long years of Obama as the GOP didn't recognize that they had been spanked.

IMHO the GOP RINO's still don't get it ... they think they won't be on the receiving end of socialistic policies, or that we could ever become a Venezuela.   Idiots!

According to the record, as of right now. it is the Republicans that will get us there quicker, by a long shot. Spending under Tump is flirting with DOUBLE the spending under Obummer.

There is no hope at all that spending will be better under TumpII.  That is nothing more than a fervent wish.

Yep... Which is why I am a Republican no more. Damn near made it back... Was gonna pull for Cruz.
Turns out it was wishful thinking for me too.

Bammy didn't have to contend with COVID -- and I believe he is a party to it's creation.

You are correct, there is absolutely no guarantees with Trump 2.0   Socialism and Bammy's continued transformation of this country is absolutely guaranteed with a Biden win.

Anyways, I don't see the GOP hanging onto the Senate, so it's not going to make any difference.

Yeah. I don't either.

Just found out about shenanigans up here.

We are mail-in. No onsite voting.
It is not wholesale mail ballot... More like an unrequested absentee ballot. Any registered voter will receive a ballot in the mail.

Funny thing is, I did not know we were mail-in until today, and that by chance. I read the daily papers up here every morning and didn't have a clue. So I figured I had better kick things around.

Found out I am not registered and will not get a ballot. This means my absentee ballot was not recorded last presidential election, because I remain registered providing I vote in presidential elections.

Found out likewise that my mother and sister are not registered, and one of my sons... For no apparent reason.

And the way I get to get registered again is to fill out crap online, print it (which I don't own a printer), and then stand in a line around the block with no close parking, to get to a building where they will only allow 5 applicants at a time inside.

Dirty pool is going on.

He's baiting them roamer.  Note the words, "on coronavirus stimulus."  He wants a stand-alone bill.  Pelosi wants to bail out Dem states that BLM/Antifa devastated.

Just a thought, someone said they mailed their ballot via registered mail.
