Disney's Bob Iger leaves California coronavirus task force as parks remain idle

Walt Disney Co. Chairman and CEO Bob Iger has abruptly departed California Gov. Gavin Newsom's COVID-19 economic task force, with Disneyland's reopening remaining at a standstill.

Iger left this week, a Disney spokesperson confirmed to the Los Angeles Times.

Disney, however, has faced a significant financial blow from closures that have cost the company $3.5 billion during the third quarter alone.

Just this week, Disney said that it will be forced to lay off approximately 28,000 employees across the company's Parks, Experiences and Products segment, which includes its California parks.

Disney's chairman of Parks, Experiences and Products, Josh D'Amaro, noted the decision was "exacerbated" by the "state’s unwillingness to lift restrictions that would allow Disneyland to reopen."

WDW re-opened almost 2 1/2 months ago. If Goobernor Noisome gave a @#$% about anything other than finding pretexts for keeping things shut down and his own tyrannous reign, he could see how WDW does things, and DL, Magic Mountain, Knotts Berry Farm, et al could probably re-open as soon as they could get employees' training up to date.

If Goobernor Noisome gave a @#$% about anything other than finding pretexts for keeping things shut down and his own tyrannous reign, he could see how WDW does things, and DL, Magic Mountain, Knotts Berry Farm, et al could probably re-open as soon as they could get employees' training up to date.

Disney is too smart, probably, to say it openly, but I suspect Iger was disgusted by Noisome's high-handedness and goalpost moving. By now every state has enough contact-tracing data from their own and other states to know types of businesses and places spread happens. That some states' goobernors ignore it in re-opening decisions demonstrates their political and tyrannous motives.

That some states' goobernors ignore it in re-opening decisions demonstrates their political and tyrannous motives.

I think if Iger was disgusted with Noisome it would be because he just could believe that a democrat would hurt a company as liberal and socialistically aware as todays Disney. I can't help but envision him in a one on one with Noisome having a perfect Greta  'How Dare You' moment.
