California to eliminate sales of new gas-powered cars by 2035

California will bar the sale of new gas-powered cars and trucks starting in 2035, Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, announced Wednesday.

The move is a bold step for the largest U.S. auto market. California already has aggressive climate change goals and zero-emissions transportation goals, but this would be the first ban on internal combustion engines within the United States.

More than a dozen countries, including the United Kingdom, have already made similar commitments to phase out the sale of gas-powered cars.

Transportation represents more than 50% of California’s greenhouse gas emissions, Newsom said on Wednesday before signing the executive order. The governor added that the state won’t be able to achieve its goal of a carbon-free economy by 2045 without accelerating actions to reduce emissions from the transportation sector.

Newsom said the move to bar new sales of internal combustion engines is also an economic opportunity for California, which alone has 34 manufacturers of electric cars.

California does not generate enough electricity to power all the cars in the state nor does it have the distribution system to do so.

What's up with Noisome, I didn't see where he ordered the states power grid to be replaced and powered by Unicorn farts so that there will be electricity available for all these electric cars. And what about all the people like me who can't afford to go out and by a brand new Unicorn fart powered car because some Gaia worshiping fascist 'feels' I should.

Considering how bad it is now.... I can only imagine how bad those rolling blackouts will be in fifteen years.   Californians haven't figured out yet that they won't be able to "charge up" those electric cars on the downside.  But on the upside... California freeways will be "free", finally, of traffic.

Can you imagine the outrage when some rolling blackouts keep emergency vehicles from recharging, and people start dying after unheeded 911 calls?  Because don't forget this dipshit will probably outlaw fossil fuels for emergency generators too.

Newsom is either a clinical imbecile or he’s insane. An EO like this is not the product of a normal mind, especially coming from a state with failing infrastructure and that is hemorrhaging taxpayers.

Well, this Californian did a decade or three ago. And the problem would plague the whole grid, from not having enough base-load (24x7x52) generation capacity to house power entry wires being insufficient to support the added load of a charger. And everything in between - transmission line, power substations, pole transformers ... EVERYTHING!

Not to worry.  Australia has already solved that problem with remote charging stations that use diesel.

As you study picture, think about what they are doing - buying expensive, inefficient electric cars so they don't burn hydrocarbons in a car, then setting up expensive charging stations that run on diesel to charge those electric cars.  Does this remotely make any sense at all?

Already, almost 100% of wind and solar powered generating stations have a natural gas generator as backup as 'the wind don't always blow and the sun don't always shine'.

Sounds like a great idea,but what are they going to use to power vehicles if they eliminate gasoline?

The reality of their plan is ultimately to eliminate the private ownership of cars,and get everyone riding buses.  They would never get away with that if they went for it immediately,so they are going after it step by step.

Of course the elites will be able to own cars if they want. All they will have to do is buy special permits that only the the upper middle-class and wealthy can afford,and the cars themselves will also be very expensive. They will have to be expensive due to the lower production.

In the Dim dream world,everyone (not THEM,of course) will live in "Stalin Cities",where the apartment blocks they live in are located close to the factories where they are assigned to work,and so are the shopping centers,and other essentials to modern life. If you can walk or catch a bus to everywhere you need or want to go,why do you need a car?
