Trump goes to California to meet with fire, emergency officials battling deadly wildfires

Fires have killed at least 35, destroyed millions of acres

By Joseph Weber

Updated: September 14, 2020 - 9:44am

President Trump on Monday will go to California to meet emergency officials battling the deadly Western wildfires that have destroyed millions of acres in the state, Oregon and Washington.

Trump is scheduled to visit a command center in McClellan Park, in Sacramento, to meet with local and federal fire and emergency officials.

"THANK YOU to the 28,000+ Firefighters and other First Responders who are battling wildfires across California, Oregon, and Washington," Trump tweeted Friday night.

At least 35 people have been killed in the recent  fires across the three states that have also scorched more than 3.5 million acres and destroyed hundreds of homes and other property. In addition, a half-million people have had to evacuate as result of the recent fires.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is expected to attend the briefing but whether Gov. Gavin Newsom will attend remains unclear.

Leaders in the Democratic-led states and others have blamed climate change for this year's record-breaking fire season – marked by especially hot, dry air.

The president has in the past been critical of how state officials manage their forests to avoid fast-spreading wildfires fuels by brush.

McClellan Park is part of the former McClellan AFB. The Coast Guard still uses the airfield, as do California Department of Forestry and US Forest Service.
If, as anti-Covid-vaxxers claim, https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2021/robert-f-kennedy-jr-said-the-covid-19-vaccine-is-the-deadliest-vaccine-ever-made-thats-not-true/ , https://gospelnewsnetwork.org/2021/11/23/covid-shots-are-the-deadliest-vaccines-in-medical-history/ , The Vaccine is deadly, where in the US have Pfizer and Moderna hidden the millions of bodies of those who died of "vaccine injury"? Is reality a Big Pharma Shill?

Millions now living should have died. Anti-Covid-Vaxxer ghouls hardest hit.

IMHO I think it's really bad form for Newsom not to have met POTUS at the plane.

A question for you @PeteS in CA . And yes, I did look this up, but I find it more secure to ask residents of the state.

Are most of these fires in federal forests? If so is there a marriage of some sort between state and fed to maintain them properly?

The Hot Shots are having a very difficult time out there.  My hat's off to these amazing forest firefighters.  In AZ, we lost around 20 in one really bad fire a few years back.  Tragic losing so many men in one shot.  Even those portable thermal tents can't protect you when all the oxygen has been sucked out of the air by the flames. 8888crybaby

Cross-comparing CAL FIRE's webpage, https://www.fire.ca.gov/incidents , with Google Maps, I'd say that probably a majority of the fires are in national forests and parks, but many are in state parks/forests, county parks, and private lands. CA isn't like AZ, where IIRC >90% of land is either Federal or Indian reservations, but the % of Federal land in CA is very high, ~46%, https://ballotpedia.org/Federal_land_ownership_by_state .

I think it's NV that's 95% federal.

All I can say for certain is the fire in my area, the CZU fire, is predominantly burning in State and privately owned land.
