Police Shooting of Suspect Charging Officer Armed with A Knife Sets Off Rioting In Lancaster Pennsylvania.

Earlier on Sunday afternoon a Lancaster Police Department Officer shot and killed a black suspect who was charging at him with a knife over his head.

The officer had been called to a “domestic disturbance”.  When he arrived a woman was standing just inside the front door of the “townhouse” with the glass door closed.  She opened and saw the officer who was walking up from the sidewalk.  There were 4 steps up from ground level up to the front door.  The officer can be heard saying to the woman “Where’d he go?”  As the woman opens the door and begins to exit, the officer tells her to “Get back, get back.”   As she does so a tall black man exits the front door and comes down the steps as the officer retreats.  The black man is holding a large kitchen knife above his head and begins charging towards the officer.  The officer defends himself from attack by shooting the suspect from a distance of 5-8 feet, killing him.

Rioters, whom some journalists identified as antifa and Black Lives Matter supporters, attacked a police station in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, on Sunday night and threw bricks at police officers.

The attack happened after a Lancaster police officer shot a man, identified by police as Ricardo Munoz, 27, who charged at him with a knife earlier in the day.  ...

The violent riots and looting broke out after “a black man died in an officer-involved shooting,” The Daily Wire reported. “Local authorities quickly released footage from the incident that showed the man running out of house and charging at the police officer with a knife. Police responded to the home after a woman called them to report that her brother was allegedly becoming aggressive with their mother and trying to break into the home.”

“The first officer on the scene walked to the front of the residence and made contact with a woman, who was identified as a family member,” The Lancaster Bureau of Police said in a statement. “A male subject then exited the front door of the residence and began chasing the officer. Preliminary information and body worn camera footage indicates that the male subject had a knife in his right hand as he was chasing the officer. The officer fired several shots from his firearm, striking the subject. The subject, identified as 27 year old Lancaster man, did not survive his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The officer was the only police officer on the scene at the time of the shooting and his body worn camera was activated and recorded the encounter.” ...

I'm guessing these weren't locals. Lancaster is only 60K in population and in the heart of Amish country.

I'm skeptical in a town that small that there is enough antifa/blm to organize and equip a riot of that scale, that fast.

Which means they got rapid response teams more or less sitting around, ready to go.

I love Lancaster. Visited a few years ago and have been wanting to return.

Correction: A charging knife-wielding domestic-disturbance suspect with a track record of stabbing people. Police got called out to a domestic disturbance yesterday and were immediately confronted by Ricardo Munoz, who chased after the officers with a knife. Officers arrived at the home in the 300 block of Laurel Street in Lancaster around 4:15 p.m., the DA’s office said. The video released Sunday night shows an officer approaching the home and asking a woman who answered the door “where’d he go?”

After a moment, a man can be heard saying something as the woman says “ay Dios” or “oh god” in Spanish. While she goes to a side porch, the officer tells her to get back as a man comes running out of the home with a knife.

The officer runs, as the man chases him with the knife raised, and shots can be heard in the footage. The man can then be seen lying on the sidewalk.

Perhaps unknown to officers at that time, this wasn’t Munoz’ first time attacking people with a knife. In early 2019, police had arrested Munoz after a stabbing spree that injured four people and a standoff during which Munoz threatened to slice his own throat

Black Lives Matter staged protests over the shooting, and those quickly turned into rioting, necessitating the use of gas to clear the street.
