A Prayer, by Samuel Johnson composed in the 1700s

I haven't seen any better
I found this reading about Dr Samuel Johnson who lived in the 1700s. He composed the first English Dictionary.

Almighty and most merciful Father, who hast granted me to prolong my life to another year, look down upon me with pity. Let not my manifold sins and negligences avert from me thy fatherly regard. Enlighten my mind that I may know my duty: that I may perform it, strengthen my resolution.

O Lord, forgive me the time lost in idleness: pardon the sins which I have committed, and grant that I may redeem the time misspent, and be reconciled to thee by true repentance, that I may live and die in peace.

O Lord, calm my thoughts, direct my desires, and fortify my purposes. It it shall please thee to give quiet to my latter days, and so support me with thy grace that I may die in thy favour for the sake of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Strengthen me, O Lord, in good purposes, and reasonable meditations. Look with pity upon all my disorders of mind, and infirmities of body.

Samuel Johnson was a great man.  He created the first dictionary and was a religious man.

I have read two books about him and have a third on my bookshelf. Highly recommended.

The refreshing differences of what and who we have trying to re-invent America, and those that built this nation to its long held position of light unto the world and an envy to the world of what a Godly nation can do. :amen:
