Republicans urge Trump to make the convention all about Biden

President Trump needs to use his party convention to heap pressure and headlines on his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden, while resisting the temptation to hog the spotlight, according to Republican strategists and allies.

They say time is running out to reverse a poll deficit and that the Republican National Convention could be Trump's last, best chance to prevent the election from being purely a referendum on his record.

Republican strategist Ron Bonjean, a former Senate GOP leadership aide, said they had to present voters with a choice between two visions of the country.

“They need to be realistically upbeat about the future of the country while showcasing the president’s record and contrasting it with Biden’s failure to lead over the past 47 years he’s been in Washington,” he said.

Wrong.  Attack the Democratic Party as a whole.  Joe is just a figurehead,  but the radicals in the Party will be calling the shots.

Biden, what the Dem Party has made itself, and the rioters should be major themes, but Trump's main themes need to be his record and what he will do. "I am not ________!" should not be the Rs' and Trump's main theme.

Trump should force Biden to defend the radicals in the Party, or incur their wrath.  Too many centrists are comfortable with Joe, because they think he's more to the center than other Democrats,  but the fact is,  there won't be a dime's worth of difference if Biden or Bernie were President.

This advise assumes people have bought the nonstop media attacks on Trump. IMO its a mistake to assume the public does not appreciate the work the Trump administration did during its first term, and understand the media has been involved in a ludicrous pile-on since he became president.

It is also a mistake to make Trump's campaign about Biden's cognitive decline for the same reason -  people do not like bullying. But Biden's 45 yr record certainly and recent policy statements and lies are fair game.

Most understand Trump is what stands between us and the progressive vision for this country, he needs to be clear about it.

The only way at the news media is through their mega corporate owners. And the only way at them is through Congress. And the only way to get at congress is through the ballot box.

Don’t ask me how we get around the rigged system and massive campaign donations. Haven’t figured that one out yet.

IMHO the worst thing he could do is to focus on Biden.  Biden is nothing but a negative, why give him any publicity? The President needs to make the convention about his vision for this country going forward and his accomplishments so far. 

The convention needs to be typical high-energy, positive Trump.
