I used to have a neighbor that grew up on the Mississippi River. He worked many years gill netting the river and clearing log jams. One morning, right after cooking breakfast, on his boat, tied up, who knows where, on the river, he stuck his finger into the bilge water, before starting his engine, and it came up all gasoline. His fuel tank was a 50 gal oil drum and now all his fuel was in the bilge. He found where his steel gas line rusted thru where it went thru one of the ribs. He fixed the gas line, bailed all his gas out of the bilge water, and ran all of it through chamois and was on his way again. He was lucky his boat didn't explode when he was cooking breakfast standing above all that gas in his bilges.
He had many stories of his life on the Mississippi.
