Maybe the rest of the country should start fining California for all the air pollution it is responsible for practically every year. They like their environment crap to be imposed on everyone else, how about holding them accountable for theirs? This is no small thing.

7 dead, multiple structures destroyed as 625 fires burn in California

American Military News by  Rong-Gong Lin II - Los Angeles Times and Luke Money - Los Angeles Times 8/25/2020

The death toll from the historic firestorms hitting Northern California rose to seven Monday as officials used a small break in the weather to make progress against a series of lightning-sparked blazes that have been burning for a week.

Crews are battling 625 fires throughout the state, according to Gov. Gavin Newsom. So far this year, firefighters have responded to 7,002 fires that have scorched a combined 1.4 million acres, the governor said. By this time last year, there had been 4,292 fires that had consumed about 56,000 acres.

Newsom called this week critical in trying to fight the fires, adding that crews continue to flow into the area to help overstretched firefighters.

The state’s commitment includes more than 2,400 fire engines, he said. More have been pledged from other agencies both in and out of California — including 91 from Arizona, Idaho, New Mexico, Texas, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

Massive California wildfires expected to get worse as lightning, wind storms move in

American Military News by  Alex Wigglesworth - Los Angeles Times, Rong-Gong Lin II - Los Angeles Times, Los Angeles Times - Joe Mozingo and Joseph Serna - Los Angeles Times 8/25/2020

The second- and third-largest fires in California history are expected to grow in the next few days as a new thunderstorm system moves over the state, producing dry lightning and gusty winds.

The National Weather Service issued red-flag warnings across large swaths of Northern and Central California that went into effect before sunrise Sunday.

The storms could spark more blazes and cause existing ones to spread rapidly, and that is unwelcome news for firefighters, who are already stretched thin.

Crews on Sunday were battling dangerous fires from the Santa Cruz Mountains to wine country and beyond, using a small break in the weather to get a jump on the conflagrations, many of them ignited by lightning strikes.
