Venezuela sentences former Green Berets to 20 years in prison for failed coup d'état

A Venezuelan court has sentenced two former Green Berets to 20 years in prison for their roles in a failed beach attack aimed at overthrowing President Nicolás Maduro, the country's attorney general announced Friday.

The two former U.S. Special Forces — Luke Denman, 34, and Airan Berry,42 — admitted to “to having committed crimes of conspiracy, association, illicit trafficking of weapons of war and terrorism,” Venezuela’s top prosecutor, Tarek William Saab, announced on Twitter on Friday.

“THEY ADMITTED THEIR RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FACTS,” Venezuela’s chief prosecutor, Tarek William Saab, wrote in a Twitter post. No further details were shared by the Venezuelan government.

The State Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — A Venezuelan court has sentenced two former U.S. Special Forces soldiers to 20 years in prison for their part in a failed beach attack aimed at overthrowing President Nicolás Maduro, prosecutors announced.

The former Green Berets, Luke Denman and Airan Berry, admitted to taking part in the May 4 operation orchestrated by a third former U.S. soldier who remains in the United States, Venezuela’s chief prosecutor, Tarek William Saab, announced on Twitter on Friday.

It is mandatory you have a GT score high enough to become an officer to even be accepted for training,and people who are afraid of dying don't generally volunteer for SF. If they do,it doesn't take them long to recognize they made a mistake,and quit.

SF isn't like the regular military. All volunteer,and you can quit any time you want,and be transferred back to the regular army.

I have to edit that last piece about quitting at any time. IF you have been alerted and briefed to go on a classified mission,you go. If you make an issue of it,you will be locked away in  a room with no visitors until after the mission is over and your team has returned.

IF this happens,don't expect a good write-up in your 201 file when you leave.

This is what happens when you watch too many Schwarzenegger movies followed by binge watching Mission Impossible.    They should have paid closer attn to the later.  "Your mission, should you choose to accept it, ... As always, should you or any of your IM Force be caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions. This tape will self-destruct in five seconds.
