This whole peaceful protest shtick was used in the Standing Rock protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline. That's what the media told people on both coasts while protestors hurled the usual trash, bottles, Molotov cocktails, roicks and other projectiles, and even a propane bomb at police (the latter nearly blew the protester's arm off). There's a reason why fire hoses were used on the protestors (to snuff the Molotovs). Trucks were burned on a bridge, damaging the bridge and blocking a vital highway for locals, and private property was vandalized, livestock killed and mutilated, and construction equipment suffered a $million+ in damages. The usual outside protesters (some paid) showed up, and while all that mess was going on, valves on pipelines in active service were tampered with.
Not peaceful, but what we saw and heard in ND was as different from what people were told elsewhere as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Cinderella.
