(CNSNews.com) - House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Calif.) countered a reporter's statement that the HEROES Act included elements that were “not directly related to COVID”--such as a provision allowing banks to do business with marijuana retailers--by stating that “cannabis…is a therapy that has proven successful” in dealing with COVID-19.

“Republicans and the administration got a lot of heat when they released their bill because there was a lot of unrelated things in there, including money for the FBI building, money for the defense, to replenish the wall,” the reporter said to Pelosi.

During a press conference on Friday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) defended including cannabis in the House’s coronavirus legislation and argued cannabis “is a therapy that has proven successful” and is related to coronavirus.

Pelosi was asked, “Republicans and the administration got a lot of heat when they released their bill. Because there was a lot of unrelated things in there, including money for the FBI building, money for defense to replenish the wall. There’s some things in your bill that’s not directly related to COVID, like they’re talking about cannabis or the SALT reduction. Are those things that you’re willing to also strip out of the bill?”

Pelosi responded, “Well, I don’t agree with you that cannabis is not related to this. This is a therapy that has proven successful, and it is by no means of the caliber of money or misrepresentation that remodeling the federal building is for over a billion dollars so that another hotel doesn’t come in there and compete with the president’s hotel. That’s what that’s all about. That has nothing to do with the coronavirus. So, we’re going to have to come to some compromise on the legislation. I just don’t accept that there’s any equivalence in what you put forth there.”

Perhaps she was referring to CBD oil??  I see it as a possibility -- but the research was done by a dental college in Georgia -- so I don't think there' enough research and because it is CBD oil, I doubt that the research will be given much consideration.

While more work, including clinical trials to determine optimal dosage and timing, is needed before CBD becomes part of the treatment for COVID-19, researchers at the Dental College of Georgia and Medical College of Georgia have early evidence it could help patients showing signs of respiratory distress avoid extreme interventions like mechanical ventilation as well as death from acute respiratory distress syndrome.

"ARDS is a major killer in severe cases of some respiratory viral infections, including severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and we have an urgent need for better intervention and treatment strategies," says Dr. Babak Baban, immunologist and interim associate dean for research at DCG and corresponding author of the study in the journal Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research..........
