Vanessa Guillén’s family to meet with Trump in D.C.
« on: July 29, 2020, 08:11:52 PM »
Houston Chronicle by  Samantha Ketterer July 29, 2020

The family of slain Spc. Vanessa Guillén will meet with President Donald Trump on Thursday before he is expected to voice his support of a bill in Guillén’s name, her family’s attorney said.

The family’s visit to Washington, D.C. will also be marked by a march from the U.S. Capitol to the White House. The 20-year-old Houston native was killed in April at the U.S. Army post in Fort Hood, sparking national criticism of sexual assault and harassment in the military.

That movement led to the “#IAmVanessaGuillen” bill, which would allow active duty service members to file sexual harassment and assault claims to a third-party agency, instead of to their chain-of-command, attorney Natalie Khawam said.
