A mainstay of Montrose, public radio station KPFT, could be headed elsewhere in Houston, signaling to some a changing of the guard in one of Houston’s most eclectic enclaves.

In an email to members, Pacifica Foundation, the California-based public radio partnership that owns KPFT, said the station’s building at 419 Lovett Blvd. is for sale, with the proceeds expected to pay for relocation and some debt repayment. The decision was prompted in part by what officials called a “favorable real estate market in Houston.”

Though an aging one, the Lovett building is a gem of Montrose, where residents have long taken pride in the spunky little station and its left-leaning and free-speech bona fides. At a time when Montrose set itself apart from the rest of Houston as a haven for dissidents and oddballs, KPFT eagerly gave them a voice.

Pacifica Foundation is so dysfunctional in its Prog-ness that it is self-fracturing, maybe even mutually-cancelling. It's a Proggier-Than-Thou soap opera. IOW, this is a good riddance, IMO. They have an outlet in Berserkeley, KPFA.

Man.  The place sounds like a trainwreck.  It's bad when even the HoreCron can't spin it in a good light. 

The part about the 1971 KKK bombing was a nice try though.

They did have some pretty good music programs even into the 90's.
Cajun on Saturday mornings, followed by Lone Star Juke box.
Blues on Sundays
A great Jazz show that went away,when to DJ went to New York called Milestones, on Saturday night.
