Zimbabwe VP blames colonisers for not teaching locals how to run economy

Zimbabwe’s Vice President, Kembo Mohadi, has blamed the country's former colonial ruler of not teaching native Zimbabweans to run the economy as the southern African nation battles a prolonged economic downturn.

Addressing the ruling Zanu PF provincial structures in Gwanda, south east of Bulawayo, Mohadi lamented the economic depression the country has gone through since independence from Britain in 1980.

"We got our independence but the white man never gave us knowledge on how to run our economy," Mohadi said in an address broadcast on national television on Saturday. He said the only knowledge the locals had was to run bottle stores and general dealer businesses.

They seemed to be doing pretty OK for themselves until they decided to adopt socialism.

What is now called the University of Zimbabwe was established with Brit authorization and support in 1952, when it was still the Colony of Rhodesia. And many current government leaders studied abroad. So Kembo Mohadi is lying and ignoring significant relevant facts. Maybe the Zimbabwean government shouldn't have killed and driven out skilled productive people for the "crime" of being white and given their lands and assets to incompetent Mugabe cronies!

South Africa does seem to be going down the road Zimbabwe took 2 or 3 decades ago. A family friend grew up there and has family there. They're white so I'm a bit concerned for them.

WHY would anyone have ever expected any OTHER "results"?

The worst possible move South African whites could have made was giving up apartheid and agreeing to black rule. They were doomed from the moment they turned over power.

The only possible course for survival (for them and for the Rhodesian whites) would have been to create a "white homeland' prior from which all blacks were expelled --- and then give the blacks "the rest". Kind of like cutting a new "Israeli-like" white ethnic state amongst the muslims around them (the Israelis).

At least it might have been possible to defend themselves that way.
But now, they have all-but resigned themselves to eventual genocide.

Will we learn anything from what's happening there?

My co-worker is an Afrikaner.  I have a difficult time understanding his English (mainly due to bad hearing), but the guy is over 60 and still going strong.

They're good people... I have met some of their cattlemen back in the day... Funny that. An Australian cowboy is certainly a cowboy... weird compared to me (no rope, but bullwhip), but understands riding the range, coming from a wide land. The Afrikaners are cattlemen... They know cows, but not cowboyin. They raised up with paddocks and small pastures. Great folks though, coming up to learn. And they do, right quick.

Frankly,I have no sympathy for them. They have been living there for generations,and we are supposed to believe they actually thought the natives weren't restless and would treat them fairly?

WTH is fool enough to remain in a country where you have to buy rape insurance on your white wife and daughters because both rape and AIDS are so common you need the insurance to get them treated for AIDS?

Yeah,I understand the reluctance to just abandon the huge farms that have been in their families for 200 years or so because there is nobody there to buy them,but how much farming do dead families do?

At this point I see it as natural selection with the victims choosing themselves,and chances are the only remaining white people are the ones who supported the revolution.

I have every pity for them. Everything they have is being taken from them. All they own, to include their honor and humanity. It's a damn cryin shame. Overrun with jackals, they are being blamed for the jackals. Total bullcrap.

This land I love, the land I am standing upon, is shared by farmers and ranchers everywhere. your land is your life, and the struggle is hard enough without the jackals. That they would stay too long and fight for it is not a surprise to me.

I have a guy who's painting my Castle right now who is a refugee from South Africa.  He just came to AZ last December.  Good guy, loves the baby Quail we have running around the place.  He's English, not Dutch.

Absolutely,  land is land, but when your family is being threatened to be butchered like hogs,  who would want to buy that land from you? Under that scenario,  how would you get enough $$$ to buy land elsewhere to start over?  The only choice is to leave with your family to save them and start over completely.  I have known three families -- two from S Africa and one from Zimbabwe -- who fled because that was their only choice. They did not leave with nowhere near enough money to replace what they had to leave behind, but they did save their family's lives.  And even though they had to start completely over, they were  excellent examples of the  immigrant American dream.

Completely different deal. The pioneers had the government behind them,and the Indians didn't even have each other.

In Africa,every single rebellion there had the full financial and political backing of every Communist nation in the world,as well as the international press and all the western "weasel nations".

The whites had nobody but each other,and even then the white communists backed up the blacks because they were Communists.
