A federal judge ordered President Trump's lawyers and the state of New York to provide the next legal steps in the aftermath of the Supreme Court's ruling on his taxes.
On Friday, Judge Victor Marrero asked the Manhattan District Attorney's office and Trump's lawyers to provide him with "potential areas for further argument†following the high court's ruling that the president must provide financial records not protected by executive privilege in state grand jury investigations.
“Two hundred years ago, a great jurist of our Court established that no citizen, not even the president, is categorically above the common duty to produce evidence when called upon in a criminal proceeding. We reaffirm that principle today and hold that the president is neither absolutely immune from state criminal subpoenas seeking his private papers nor entitled to a heightened standard of need," Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the majority decision.
