Release the audit. It’s as simple as that. Yet Houston Police Chief Art Acevedo and Mayor Sylvester Turner continue to withhold the results of an investigation into the department’s narcotics division that demand public scrutiny.

The report was produced after the botched 2019 Harding Street drug raid, which left two people dead, five officers injured, and shone a light on the conduct of officer Gerald Goines, who has since resigned, been charged with murder and faces federal civil rights charges.

Thousands of cases involving Goines and other members of the narcotics squad are under review by the Harris County District Attorney, casting a pall of suspicion on the department that is only compounded by efforts to keep the audit hidden.

That Houston police chief had officers murder innocents under his watch.

He needs to face the music as he is the one who sets policy, and obviously was lax in his oversight of some rogue cops.
