Will this ever be over? If so, when?
« on: June 28, 2020, 01:22:05 am »
In light of the never-ending coronavirus saga, I figured I'd put the question up as to how long people think we'll constantly be living with that virus being the Sword of Damocles over all our heads threatening to rear its ugly head every time we dare come close to anyone.

Pretty much. It was over for me shortly after it began.

It'll end just as soon as we elect a Democrat president. As soon as that happens, the media will be like, "Corona what?"
Let it burn.

Yep, and if we don't, it'll be like stepping in chewing gum on a hot day--it'll stick with us.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

It won’t last forever. We found cures for other things that caused panics in the past, like smallpox, and polio. So I know we will find a cure/vaccine for this.

Life got “back to normal” after the Black Plague and the Spanish Flu.

 Don’t loose faith. We’ll get through this too. And be stronger by doing so.

   Never.  The left will not give up these incremental gains they have amassed at our expense.
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

Allegheny County, PA just ordered no drinking in the bars.  Can only get alcohol to take out.  Blaming the bars for not enforcing social distancing and mask wearing and now there has been an increase in COVID cases.  So they say.

Expect the Dems in this state to issue a similar order all over.  Eventually, they will try to lock us all down again.

Good luck with that fellas.  You like riots?  You will get them tenfold if you try to put everyone into isolation again.

It will finally be over when the shooting stops.

Probably.

Allegheny County is as corrupt a Democrat controlled area as exists in the country.

I am from there, and glad to be from there.  My wife literally tonight said she would like to go back to be near MY family.  I said go ahead, enjoy.  Last place on earth I want to live.  Very last place!!!

I was born and raised in Western PA.  Lived in Pittsburgh for several years, then back to my hometown.  Wasn't till I got a job and earned enough money to travel that I found out there were so many places in the US that were so much better than here.  Pennsylvania in general is about a century behind everywhere else.  Democrats rule with an iron fist in the big cities and even in distressed small towns like mine.   Most of the time they run unopposed.  What little opposition there is will be token at best.  But really, even if you live where Republicans govern, it's no better.  Republicans are just like the Democrats in this state.

Always wanted to retire somewhere else, but I ended up on disability and my retirement nest egg is not very big.  So here I am and here I stay.  Just lucky I still can travel occasionally -- get out of this hellhole for maybe a week or two.

@Applewood

Why have you convinced yourself you are powerless and have no options?

If you can afford to live where you are now,you can afford to live elsewhere,where you are freer and safer. Yes,you will have to sell your house,but do you own that house,or does the house own you?

All any of us really own are our own lives,and most of us throw it away worrying about things we have no control over.

You DO have control over where you live,and life is too short to spend it living somewhere you don't want to live.

@sneakypete

Thank you or your excellent advice.  Unfortunately, I did the research into the places I would like to live and no, I can't afford to live in any of them.  My fault -- had I done better financial planning, but it is what it is.

I'm also responsible for my 88 year old aunt who has no immediate family and depends on her nieces and nephew.  If I moved away, I would be dumping my aunt on my brother and cousin and I don't want to do that.  I'm very close to my aunt -- she is also my godmother -- and I wouldn't want to leave her.  Family is very important to us.

But that's the way life is.  We often have plans and dreams, but they often aren't realized.  So we just have to live with the way things are.

The good news here is you are not doing anything against your will. When your aunt dies,you will be free to move anywhere you want THAT IS WITHIN YOUR MEANS.

No,you probably won't be able to live on the ocean front in Maui or in Beverly Hills,but that doesn't mean there aren't a lot of affordable places available that are within your budget. You just have to do a little research.

"....living with that virus being the Sword of Damocles over all our heads threatening to rear its ugly head every time we dare come close to anyone."

If it wasn't a virus, it would be a whole lot of other things. It always has been. This is not about a virus, it's about power and control. This virus was not an accident. ""You never let a serious crisis go to waste," - Rahm Emanuel. Replacing government money for school lunches and breakfasts, the destruction of social security and medical care, cutting off illegals by Trump when the biggest illegals deporting president ever was Obama, just anything to do that holding over the head. Anything to scare (pander) up votes. We will live under the virus until it is no longer useful. Then it will be replaced by something else. May be even one of the already used. They need the ACA, whether it is affordable of not.

And the credit for saving the country will be claimed by whatever socialist president is in power. It doesn't make any difference that all the research and development for the upcoming vaccine in December came during the Trump administration. Biden and Harris are already blowing smoke about it when all they did when Trump was talking was bad mouth it....too late, not enough, unable to administer it.....

And if you think it hasn't happened before, Obama took credit for getting Bin Laden. That's a crock! Information from Sheik Mohammad and a currier named Hasan Ghul captured in Iraq in 2002 provided the information to triangulate his location. And  Obama violated the Geneva Convention and the UN by sending in an assassination team to kill an unarmed enemy. He should have been treated like Saddam and hung for his crimes so he doesn't get his virgins and become a legend.
