I was told early on by Trump supporters that he uses Twitter to disseminate real news because the mainstream media puts out so much falsehood. However, in the last four years, it seems to me all Trump does with Twitter is bully people he doesn't like, whine about certain injustices (real or imagined) and put out conspiracy theories and unproven stories. This incident in Buffalo -- despite the clear version of the video that's out now, we still don't know for sure what all went down. Seems to me it's not prudent for a president running for re-election to bash this guy, especially since all the facts aren't in yet.
Then there is Trump's feud with Scarborough. Why is he pushing a conspiracy theory that was debunked ages ago? How does doing so inform his base and any potential voters out there?
Colin Powell voting for Biden: I was also told once that Trump didn't need every vote, particularly mine. So why is Trump disparaging Powell on Twitter about his vote for Biden? The general does have the right to choose whoever he wants. And whether we like Powell or not -- I don't -- he is still considered in some quarters to be a respected member of the military. Bullying him may not go over well with those voters.
I understand there is an official White House Twitter account. Why can't Trump let that account disseminate the "real news?" Maybe he can tweet from his own account about his campaign -- his next rally, for example. But the way he is using Twitter now only pleases his base. If he wants to attract outsiders, he should lay off the insults, whining and conspiracy theories. They are a turnoff. Turning off voters is a bad idea when you are running for re-election.
