    Socialism, Sharia law and Islam are creeping in while we are all distracted with authoritarian Coronavirus lockdown orders.

    The Muslim community has been flexing its muscle since government officials have ordered unconstitutional lockdown orders across the country.

    Culver City is the latest Southern California city to allow the Islamic call to prayer, or “adhan,” to blare five times a day from a loudspeaker (beginning at 4:30 AM) during the Coronavirus shutdown.

1. As long as local noise ordinances applicable to church bells/chimes and loud worship - times and dB level - are complied with, this is protected by the First Amendment. Don't like it? Amend the Constitution.

2. Response to a Call to Prayer does not necessarily entail gathering at a mosque (or Islamic Center). So allowing the Adhan does not mean Muslims are being given a special exception to the current ban/limitations on gatherings.

And before anyone goes there again:

1. I am not and never have been a Muslim of any variety;

2. I have never been closer to a mosque or Islamic Center than driving past one that happens to be close to a major artery street in Campbell, CA.

3. I know that if the religious freedoms of ______s are violated, my religious freedoms will soon be violated.

4. I try to learn about people and religions who are different from me. An example would be my choice to read the Qur'an in English translation so as to get a clue as to why some Muslims want to kill me.

Good post Pete, but my prespective is a little different.  It is pretty well documented and understood that Islamic prinicples are based on on conquest of infidels.  I have no problem with anyone worshipping their God, as long as it isn't a front for a more sinister purposes.  There was a very informative synopis of the progession of Islam some time back, and well worth a read.  I have attached the link.

How many terroristic attacks have been fronted from mosques and Islamic Centers?  I haven't kept count, but they seem to keep popping up into the narrative.

Nothing about conquest, etc. in it. At all.

2. There is an Islamic Center (no minaret, therefore not a mosque) about 4 miles from my home, the one I alluded to above. It's been there for 20+ years. There are at least two other Islamic Centers here in Silicon Valley, last I checked. There has been no terrorist violence by Muslims here. At all. OTOH, there was an incident a year or so ago in Sunnyvale in which a guy with PTSD who was off his meds ran down several dark-skinned people because he thought they were Muslims (knowing the area, I think it more likely they were Hindus and/or Sikhs). So painting Muslims with a warehouse broom as homogeneous doesn't work.

I'm not saying there are zero incidents of violence/terrorism by Muslims. That would be stupid. OTOH, broom-painting all Muslims as threats would spread threat-detection resources so thinly that detection of real threats would be impeded. Not to mention needlessly antagonizing Muslims who simply want to lead peaceful lives.

You will find little of it in the Koran itself. It's the Hadiths - Similar in fashion to Jewish or Catholic traditions - The hadiths empower change to the words of the book. You won't have the full picture without reading the hadiths.

My compliments.  You are a lot more tolerant than I am.  I still harbor significant 9-11 resentment.  One can rationalize that this was carried out by a small radical group.  But OTOH, did you notice or remember the extreme lack of condemnation by even the so called moderate sects of the religion?

Sorry, that I just can't let it go.
