San Diego Mayor Blasts Newsom for Saying First Responders Would Be Laid Off First Without Federal Aid

San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer blasted California governor Gavin Newsom for suggesting first responders would get laid off first without federal aid. Newsom told Jake Tapper during an appearance on CNN “our police officers and firefighters, consider the fact that they are the first ones who will be laid off by cities and counties.”

Faulocner tweeted:

No, police officers and fire fighters will NOT be cut first — at least not in San Diego. I would never hold out first responders as leverage to balance my budget.

San Diego, 2nd largest city in CA; 8th largest in US.

San Diego county has a 6,600 ft. peak in the mountains, and is the 2nd largest aglomeration after Detroit-Windsor.

Lotsa military; Navy and Marines. Lotsa scenery; oceans to mountains to deserts.

It is a scare tactic I've seen public officials use repeatedly.
"It we don't get the money soon, Cops and Firefighters will be laid off".
They won't do it.
They know people would lose it, because everybody needs them.
They want you to think they will do that, and not cut somewhere else.
